The Helsinki public was very supportive of a recent Falun Dafa event to raise awareness of the ongoing persecution in China. Many see the suppression of Falun Dafa in China as part of a larger problem. Said one man, "If we don’t stand up for ourselves and speak out for what we believe in, we will lose freedom forever.”
When the persecution started in 1999, a new practitioner became fearful and no longer practiced Falun Dafa. It wasn't until 20 years later, afflicted by debilitating disease, that she finally resumed practicing. The results were nothing short of miraculous.
Weeks ahead of the Beijing Winter Olympics, the authorities in one of the three zones to host the snow sports arrested five local Falun Gong practitioners under the pretext of preventing them from speaking out about Falun Gong during the games. Other residents also face draconian restrictions.
