Hunan Man Held in Brainwashing Center Following Latest Arrest for His Faith

(Minghui.org) Mr. Lei Yangfan was stopped by the police when he was about to board a train at 11 p.m. on July 19, 2022. The Changsha City, Hunan Province resident was then arrested and held at the Sifangping Police Station overnight.

On the next day, the police attempted to force Mr. Lei to provide information about other local Falun Gong practitioners and write a statement renouncing Falun Gong. The police handcuffed Mr. Lei’s hands behind his back, slapped him in the face, and put him in a chokehold. His neck was sprained and cut.

As he refused to cooperate, the police took him to the Laodaohe Brainwashing Center, where he has since been closely monitored by the authorities. His mother, who is in her 70s, is calling on the authorities to release him.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Lei, 48, was previously an HR manager at the Hunan Branch of the Bank of China. His wife used to practice Falun Gong too, but she gave up and also divorced him because of the persecution. After he lost his job for upholding his faith, he moved in with his parents.

Mr. Lei has been repeatedly arrested, harassed and detained in brainwashing centers over the years. He served two labor camp terms for a total of four years, during which time he was almost tortured to death. When he was incarcerated, his elderly parents struggled to care for his daughter and his mentally disabled sister.

To make a living, Mr. Lei did many odd jobs, including sales associate and motorcycle driver. He also had a street stall to sell merchandise.

Prior to his latest arrest, he was arrested another time when he tried to take a train to another city to look for jobs. He was also held in the Laodaohe Brainwashing Center following the earlier arrest.
