(Minghui.org) Mr. Qu Bin is scheduled to be released on March 16, 2020, after serving six years in prison for practicing Falun Gong, an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
During the past six years, Mr. Qu, a resident of Dalian City, Liaoning Province, held several hunger strikes to protest the persecution and was in critical condition on several occasions. The prison also repeatedly denied him family visits because he refused to renounce Falun Gong.
In the past 21 years of the persecution of Falun Gong, Mr. Qu has been arrested multiple times and spent more than ten years in detention centers, labor camps and prisons.
He was detained at Dalian Forced Labor Camp between December 2000 and August 2001. Only 17 months after he was released, he was arrested again on January 11, 2003 and later sentenced to four years. He was shocked by electric batons, hung up by the wrists, and beaten while serving time.
Mr. Qu was arrested one more time on July 6, 2012. He held a hunger strike and was force-fed. He fell into a coma and was in critical condition after the food went into his lung. After he was resuscitated, the police released him on bail but continued to monitor his daily life.
Mr. Qu was taken back into custody at Dalian Detention Center on August 30, 2013. He held a hunger strike again and was emaciated and unable to walk on his own.
Mr. Qu appeared in Zhongshan District Court on October 29, 2013, in a wheelchair.
Because of his critical condition, he was released on bail on December 13, 2013. He lived away from home to avoid further persecution but was then listed online as a fugitive as the judge accused him of violating bail conditions.
Mr. Qu was captured on July 23, 2014, and sentenced five days later to six years in prison. The authorities didn’t inform his wife of his case, and she didn’t find out about his prison term until she went to Yaojia Detention Center on September 17 to deliver clothes for him.
When she went to the Shenyang No.1 Prison on September 29, the guards didn’t allow her to visit him or even send in clothes or money for him.
When Mr. Qu’s wife finally saw him on December 28, 2015 after being rejected several times, his eyes were red and had bruises underneath. Just as he was about to tell his wife what had happened, a guard threatened him not to cause trouble for himself.
