(Minghui.org) After a 42-year-old Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province, resident was admitted to a prison in June 2022 to serve a 3.5-year term for practicing Falun Gong, her family hasn’t been allowed to visit or call her.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been targeted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
A prison guard named Wang Xin recently called Ms. Liu Jinping’s family and said that she was relieving herself in her pants in protest. The family asked Wang what exactly had happened to Ms. Liu, but he refused to provide any other information.
The family later learned from an insider that Ms. Liu was brutally tortured in the prison and they suspected that she had become incontinent due to the torture. They are now very worried about her, as the prison still denies their requests to visit her.
Ms. Liu was arrested at home on May 14, 2021. While interrogating her at the local police station, Wu Bin, the director of the Domestic Security Office, twisted her arms and knocked her head against the wall. She almost became incontinent and she felt she almost died. With a large amount of swelling and wound on her head, she was taken to the Jiamusi City Detention Center on the same day.
Ms. Liu stood trial in the Xiangyang District Court on December 31, 2021, and was sentenced to 3.5 years and fined 15,000 yuan on January 6, 2022. She appealed with the Jiamusi City Intermediate Court. After the intermediate court ruled to uphold her original verdict on March 18, her family never received any updates about her case. Only when they went to the detention center to inquire about her situation, did they find out that she had been taken to the Heilongjiang Province Women’s Prison in June.
The family kept calling the prison and prison administration bureau, demanding to get in touch with Ms. Liu. But the prison guards never answered their calls. The family also mailed two letters to her, but never received any replies either.
On January 4, 2023, the family called the prison warden. Although no one answered, guard Wang Xin called back in the afternoon. Wang claimed that they weren’t demanding Ms. Liu to renounce Falun Gong, but in order for her to call her family, the first condition was that she pleaded guilty.
Worried about Ms. Liu, her family demanded to see her physical examination reports. Wang claimed that Ms. Liu was protesting every day by relieving herself in the pants. He said that they had to remove her pants and clean her. He added that many people were helping to clean her body and that she didn’t even have toilet paper or toothpaste in the prison.
The family asked Wang: “As Ms. Liu didn’t have any mental problem, why would she relieve herself in the pants? She is in her prime age and didn’t have any health issue before being arrested. How did she become incontinent and need care from others after only a few months of detention?”
Torture reenactment: sitting on a small stool
Ms. Liu’s family later learned from an insider that she was subjected to brutal torture in the prison. She was once forced to sit on a small stool and not allowed to move for five days. She wasn’t given any food or water and only slept for three hours during the time. The inmates slapped her in the face with their shoes whenever Ms. Liu closed her eyes.
To find out more about Ms. Liu’s situation in the prison, her family has filed several requests for information disclosure, but the prison is yet to respond to them. They have also filed complaints with the prison administration bureau and provincial justice bureau, demanding to hold the perpetrators accountable.
