(Minghui.org) Having been incarcerated three times for a total of 6.5 years, a 68-year-old Yingkou City, Liaoning Province resident was sentenced again to a four-year prison term for his faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Sun Wenqing was arrested on April 21, 2020, after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. His home was also ransacked. The police placed him under house arrest and forbade his family from visiting him or sending clothes to him, only allowing them to make cash deposits for him.
Mr. Sun was transferred to the Gaizhou City Detention Center around September, and then to the Yingkou City Detention Center in early 2021. He stood trial at the Zhanqian District Court in Yingkou on March 22, 2021. His family recently learned that he has been sentenced to a four year term.
This is the fourth time that Mr. Sun has been incarcerated since the onset of the persecution.
He was first arrested on July 7, 2000 for appealing for the right to practice Falun Gong in Beijing. The Yingkou police beat him overnight and gave him one year of forced labor the next day.
Mr. Sun was arrested in the summer of 2010 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. He was given two years at the Benxi Forced Labor Camp.
He was reported for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong and was arrested by Feng Wenqi, head of the Nanhu Police Station, on June 9, 2014. Feng and other officers ransacked his home and confiscated his Falun Gong books, photo of Falun Gong’s founder, computer, cellphone, and DVD player. He was later sentenced to three and half years in prison.
After being released in 2018, he rented an apartment and lived by himself. On April 18, 2019, the Yingkou Social Security Office ordered him to return all the pension payments he received while serving time, citing a new policy that Falun Gong practitioners imprisoned for their faith aren’t entitled to any retirement benefits during their terms.
