(Minghui.org) An aircraft engineer imprisoned for practicing Falun Gong is on the verge of death after holding a hunger strike for eight months and being tortured in custody.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Hu Lin, a 47-year-old resident in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province, has been on a hunger strike since his arrest on May 23, 2019, for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. He was sentenced to two years by Faku County Court on June 20.
Before he was taken to Kangjiashan Prison on October 30, 2019, the guards at Faku County Detention Center tied him spread-eagle to a wooden board and force-fed him. They left the feeding tube in his stomach in order to increase his suffering. He was hospitalized several times while held at the detention center.
In his last month at the detention center, the guards locked him up in a corner. Emaciated from the hunger strike, he lost sensation in his legs and suffered multiple organ failure.
It was reported that the authorities at Faku County Detention Center bribed officials at Kangjiashan Prison in order for them to receive Mr. Hu, after several prisons in Liaoning Province declined to admit him due to his physical condition. The detention center officials held a party to celebrate Mr. Hu’s imprisonment.
Mr. Hu continued his hunger strike in prison. His heart rate has dropped to around 40-50 beats per minute (BPM) now, while most healthy adults’ heart rate is between 60-100 BPM.
The prison refused to grant Mr. Hu medical parole and claimed that he had himself to blame should he die. His family was given the runaround while seeking justice for him.
Because he refused to renounce his faith at the demand of communist authorities, Mr. Hu has been repeatedly arrested and detained over the past 20 years. He was beaten, shocked with electric batons, and deprived of sleep at a forced labor camp between 2001 and 2002.
