(Minghui.org) Officials from the Shuangta District Court sentenced Ms. Sun Baoying to seven years in prison on November 4, 2013. She later appealed to the Chaoyang Intermediate Court and a second trial was held on March 14, 2014.
Ms. Sun was arrested on July 27, 2013, for sending a letter to the head of the Jinzhou Railroad Police Department. In her letter, she urged the officials to do good deeds and not participate in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.
Chief Zhang Zhiqiang and other officers from the Qianjin Police Department filed Ms. Sun's case with the Shuangta Procuratorate. The prosecutors were Zhao Wenjun and Zhou Jie.
Exposing Illegal Acts
Ms. Sun's lawyer pleaded “not guilty” in her defense, and exposed the court and police department's illegal acts, such as forging the evidence and police officers posing as witnesses. The lawyer stated that practicing Falun Gong is not a crime and asked to be shown any Chinese law that states that practicing Falun Gong is illegal. The prosecutors could not present anything. Mr. Sun's lawyer informed the court that her client was being framed by the police department and the court.
The head prosecutor Zhang Xiaodong announced that if a police officer does not show his badge when he comes to court, he can be recognized as a witness and not an officer. Zhang then requested that the judge pass sentence on Mr. Sun.
Law Enforcement Officers Acting Illegally
After the hearing, Mr. Sun's lawyer was visibly upset, and said: “There is no such thing as respecting the law in China nowadays. Those people are not law enforcement, but a group of gangsters. When their day of reckoning comes, if it is in my life time, I want to be part of it. I want to be a witness and state that I had already told them that what they have done is wrong, but they insisted on committing this crime against the people.”
Under pressure from the Chaoyang Political and Legal Affairs Committee, Mr. Sun was sentenced by the Shuangta Court to seven years in prison.
