49-Year-Old Jiangxi Man Repeatedly Put in Solitary Confinement and Abused While Serving 4th Prison Sentence for Practicing Falun Gong

(Minghui.org) A 49-year-old resident of Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province was repeatedly put in solitary confinement while serving a four-year term for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Mr. Luo Wenbin, born in July 1975, was arrested in March 2022, not long after he finished his third prison term in September 2021 for practicing Falun Gong. The authorities didn’t notify his family of his whereabouts or case status. They only found out in August 2023 that he had been admitted to the Nanchang City Prison to serve a four-year term.

According to an insider, as of June 2025, Mr. Luo has been placed in solitary confinement five times, each time for several months, because he held firm to his faith and refused to do free labor.

The insider also revealed that between March and mid-April 2024, the prison guards instructed inmates to restrain Mr. Luo on a metal chair (see image below) and taped headphones to his ears, forcing him to listen to recordings slandering Falun Gong. This daily brainwashing session ran from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. without any breaks.

Mr. Luo was also given very little food to eat and he has become extremely thin and weak. He needs to wear heavy jackets even in the hot summer because he is always cold.

When he was put in strict management, Mr. Luo could only use the water from the toilet bowl for drinking and washing himself.

One inmate doubted if Mr. Luo’s family knew about the abuse he has endured, as the prison has been trying to cover up the persecution against him. The inmate said if Mr. Luo were to die, it would be a result of the ongoing abuse.

This is not the first time that Mr. Luo has been targeted for his faith, which he credits for curing his stomach problems after he took up the practice in late 1998. He also became a more conscientious and caring teacher (he taught at the Luojia Town First Middle School in Qingshanhu District, Nanchang City). He was well-regarded by his students and colleagues, but was repeatedly targeted after the persecution began one year later.
