(Minghui.org) It was recently confirmed that a 45-year-old man in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, had been sentenced to prison and is currently held at Team Eight of Nanchang Prison.
Mr. Luo Wenbin was arrested not long after he finished his third prison term in September 2021. The authorities had never notified his family of his whereabouts or case status. His loved ones only learned about his imprisonment lately but still don’t know his exact prison sentence.
The four prison sentences against Mr. Luo were all because he held firm to his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Mr. Luo credits Falun Gong for curing his stomach problems after he took up the practice in late 1998. He also became a more conscientious and caring teacher (he taught at the Luojia Town First Middle School in Qingshanhu District, Nanchang City). He was well-regarded by his students and colleagues, but was repeatedly targeted after the persecution began one year later. His latest prison sentence was preceded by three prior ones totaling 12.5 years.
7-Year Prison Sentence Following Arrest in 2001
Mr. Luo distributed Falun Gong informational materials in Yingshan County, Sichuan Province while visiting there in February 2001. He was arrested and picked up by the Luojia Town Police Station and the Qingshanhu District Police Department one week later. They brought him back to Nanchang and later got him sentenced to seven years in prison.
The guards at the Yuzhang Prison in Jiangxi Province subjected Mr. Luo to various forms of torture, including savage beating, cuffing his hands behind his back and then hanging him up by the cuff, forcing him to stand facing a wall or bend his body for long periods of time, force-feeding, having him memorize prison rules and do military drills, and forcing him to work long hours without pay. One time, the guards pressed him down on the ground and whipped him on the head with several metal hangers twisted into multi-strand wires. Mr. Luo became dazed and incoherent on top of suffering physical injuries.
4.5-Year Prison Sentence Following Arrest in 2009
Mr. Luo was putting up Falun Gong posters in Qingyunpu District, Nanchang City, on September 17, 2009, when he was arrested by a patrol officer and taken to the Taziqiao Police Station for interrogation.
He was later sentenced to four and a half years and served time at the Nanchang Prison, where he was forced to do hard labor without pay and also brutally tortured.
If he failed to finish his work quota, the guards beat him in front of the other inmates and then handcuffed him to an iron gate for several days.
The guards also instigated criminal inmates to torture Mr. Luo. They forced him to stand still against a wall for a long time or kicked him at night when he was sleeping.
Although he was tortured daily, Mr. Luo still held on to his belief. This resulted in more persecution. The inmates who monitored him used a metal bar to hit him every 15 minutes in the evenings.
He was also tortured by being handcuffed to an iron gate several times, each time lasting 2-3 days, while not being allowed to use the restroom. As a result, he had to relieve himself in his pants.
Mr. Luo was also locked in solitary confinement 8 times for a total of 14 months.
He was later held in a brainwashing center for 10 months and was pressured to write statements denouncing his belief.
When Mr. Luo was released in March 2014, he was incapacitated and could no longer work. His parents had to take him in. He suffered constant headaches, convulsions, tremors, and sometimes shouted uncontrollably. He and his family suspected that the prison guards added psychotropic drugs to his food, a form of abuse used on many incarcerated Falun Gong practitioners.
One-Year Sentence Following Arrest in 2020
Mr. Luo gradually recovered through studying Falun Gong books and doing Falun Gong exercises. He resumed his efforts to raise awareness of the persecution, only to be arrested again around September 1, 2020, when he was distributing Falun Gong informational materials in Liantang Town, Nanchang County.
The arresting officers from the Youlan Township Police Station took him to the Nanchang County Detention Center. He was later sentenced to one year in prison and served his term at the detention center. He was released in September 2021 but soon arrested again, resulting in his fourth prison term.
