Jilin Man Imprisoned After Receiving an 11-year Term Within 12 Days of His Arrest
(Minghui.org) A Fuyu City, Jinlin Province resident was sentenced to 11 years just 12 days after he was arrested for practicing Falun Gong. Mr. Liu Qing was incarcerated in Jilin City Prison on September 24, 2019.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Liu's wife and daughter went to the prison to see him on September 29, 2019. The guards denied his wife's visitation, claiming that it was because she didn't bring their marriage certificate.
According to Mr. Liu's daughter, who was allowed to see him, he was pale and very weak. He walked with his upper body bent forward and with the help of a guard. Mr. Liu, the sole breadwinner for his family, said he missed his family and is worried about how his wife would make ends meet as their daughter just started high school and needed financial support.
Mr. Liu was arrested on August 15, 2019. He was tried and sentenced to 11 years on August 27 by the Fuyu Court.
The judge never informed his family of the trial. His wife found out about the hearing by chance when went to the court to inquire about his case the day before the trial.
She said that Mr. Liu was emaciated and had a bandage on his head and a feeding tube in his nose when he appeared in court.
She initially thought that he was holding a hunger strike to protest the persecution and was being force-fed. But when she was asked to come to Fuyu Detention Center to urge him to eat on August 29, she learned from Mr. Liu that he wasn't holding a hunger strike, but had been vomiting everything he ate.
Mr. Liu wasn't the only one who received a hasty term for his faith in August 2019. Ms. Hua Mingsu, a 78-year-old practitioner in Sichuan Province, was also sentenced to two years in prison, 13 days following her arrest.
