(Minghui.org) Seventy-year-old farmer Mr. Sun Yuqiang was illegally detained for over four months in Cang County for practicing Falun Dafa. The Cang County Political and Legal Affairs Committee and the 610 Office directed the Cang County Court to try Mr. Sun secretly on May 7.

The court did not notify the practitioner's family, did not allow the practitioner to hire a defense attorney, and did not announce the time and location of the trial. Various Chinese Communist Party (CCP) personnel and police officers were enlisted to guard the courthouse.

The trial was just a formality and lasted only 20 minutes. Mr. Sun was sentenced to three years in prison. The verdict indicated that it was a “public" trial, but in actuality, there were no family members or civilians present. The court kept it secret from the public, only informing the CCP judicial system.

Two judges from the second criminal court in Cang County Court went to the detention center to deliver the verdict to Mr. Sun. He told them that he wanted to appeal the decision. The judges said they would write the appeal letter for him, but on May 14, when Mr. Sun's defense attorney asked the court officials whether they had written the appeal letter for Mr. Sun, they said they had not. It was obvious that the court officials had lied to Mr. Sun so that he would miss the deadline to appeal.

Attorney denied access to case files

On the morning of May 13, Mr. Sun's defense attorney went to the second criminal court of the Cang County Court to review the case files. However, the guard did not allow him in. The attorney then asked the guard to call the second criminal court judge. The officials inside the courthouse said the judge had gone to the countryside. The attorney then asked to see any official from the second criminal court to let him in. But the official inside said he was not in charge of this case, so no one accepted the attorney or let him in, and he had to return to the hotel to wait.

In the afternoon of May 13, the attorney returned to the courthouse but was still not allowed in. The attorney asked to see the judge of the second criminal court, but was told that the judge was still not back from the countryside, and no one else was in charge of this case. The attorney was stuck in front of the gate.

On the morning of May 14, the attorney went to the Cang County Court twice to try to hand in Mr. Sun's appeal letter to the second criminal court. The guard still did not allow him in. They called the second criminal court and finally two officials came to the guard room. They questioned the attorney and made a written record of the discussion, which they asked the attorney to sign. The attorney refused their illegal request and handed in the appeal letter to the officials, which they reluctantly accepted.

On May 27, Mr. Sun's attorney went to the second criminal court of Cangzhou City Court to review the case files. Judge Li Li asked the attorney to provide a letter of proof that Mr. Sun was not practicing Falun Gong. Because the attorney did not have such a letter, the judge would not allow him to review the case files. There is no law that says that an attorney must provide proof of his client not practicing Falun Gong in order to defend his client.

Mr. Sun Yuqiang practiced Falun Dafa and followed the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to be a good person. He clarified the truth to fellow villagers so that they would know the facts about Falun Gong and have a good future. He did not break any law and did not cause any harm. He did not commit any crime.

In December 2012, right after the Cang County Police Department arrested Mr. Sun, 432 people joined together to call for his release. During his detention, more and more people showed their support and offered to give their fingerprints to urge the local government to release Mr. Sun. Up to the court trial date, over 2,500 people had given their fingerprints to call for Mr. Sun’s release.

In its persecution of Falun Gong, the CCP uses every weapon in its arsenal, including brainwashing centers, mental hospitals, and forced labor.

It uses the judicial system to illegally arrest and sentence practitioners. The city and county 610 Office (it has recently changed its name to "Prevention Office" in order to cover up its crimes) ordered the Cang County judicial system to persecute Mr. Sun Yuqiang. National security police officers Pang Liang and Bai Jiahua are also responsible for the persecution of Mr. Sun.
