Cang County Officials in Hebei Province Threatened Village Residents Who Signed a Petition to Rescue an Elderly Falun Gong Practitioner

(Minghui.org) 432 Cang County recently residents showed their support to rescue 70-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Sun Yuqiang with their signatures and fingerprints. After this story was carried by the international media, strangers came to Wanghaisi Village to "investigate." From house to house, the officers from the Fenghuadian Town Police Station defamed Falun Gong and threatened the village residents: “Has Sun Xiuling (Mr. Sun Yuqiang’s daughter) been here collecting signatures? If you have given your fingerprints, you will be held responsible.”

Fenghuadian Town government officials and the police continued to harass Wanghaisi Village residents on March 21. This time they threatened, “If someone asks you to sign, just tell them you do not know anything, otherwise, you will get into trouble.” When Ms. Sun Xiuling met some of these officials, she told them, “I am the one who started the signature-collecting campaign. Why do you threaten the villagers instead of talking to me? Not only that, as government officials, you are telling people to deny the fact that they have given their signatures. Aren’t you telling them to lie?” The officials did not know what to say.

Mr. Sun Yuqiang used to have a bad temper and nobody nearby dared to cross him. By the time he was 40, he had many health problems and his temper was even worse. He improved significantly after practicing Falun Gong. Not only was he nice, all his illnesses disappeared. At the age of 70, he was like a young man. He was willing to help others and even voluntarily repaired the roads for the village. The villagers were impressed by this.

When Mr. Sun clarified the truth at the market in Dabaitou Village, Fenghuadian Township, on December 24, 2012, Cang County Domestic Security Division deputy head Bai Jianhua and other agents arrested him and took him to the Cangzhou Detention Center. When his daughter went to the police department seeking his release, Domestic Security Division heads Pang Liang and Bai Jianhua had already submitted Mr. Sun’s paperwork to the Cang County Procuratorate. When she tried to visit him on January 8, Procuratorate personnel said visits were not allowed during the holidays. When she again returned on January 14, Pang and Bai said they were not authorized to make the decision to let her see him.

When Mr. Sun’s daughter called Pang later asking to visit her father, Pang still said no and later did not answer the phone. This upset the village residents, and more than 400 of them signed their names to rescue Mr. Sun.
