(Minghui.org) A Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province resident has been denied family visitation while serving a two-year term at the Liaoning Province Second Women’s Prison for her faith in Falun Gong.
Ms. Zhang Yaming was arrested at home on April 13, 2024 and sentenced to two years with a 5,000-yuan fine by the Linghai City Court on November 14, 2024. She was transferred from the Jinzhou City Detention Center to the prison on January 9, 2025.
Per the Prisons Act, the prison was obligated to inform Ms. Zhang’s family of her admission within five days, but they didn’t get a call until two months later, in March 2025. Only then did they learn of her prison admission and her health condition. The caller said Ms. Zhang was taking medication for high blood pressure. Her family asked when they could come see her. The caller responded that it depends on how Ms. Zhang “behaved” in the prison, meaning whether she renounces Falun Gong or not.
According to Ms. Zhang’s family, she was perfectly healthy before her arrest. Before her prison transfer, the detention center guards already told them that she had high blood pressure. They applied for her release on bail to receive medical treatment, but the detention center rejected the application, claiming that her blood pressure level had returned to normal. They provided no further information. The family is now very worried about Ms. Zhang’s health.
Since its establishment on August 31, 2019, the Liaoning Province Second Women’s Prison has been relentlessly participating in the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
Ms. Wang Jiemei, a retired teacher in Fushun City, Liaoning Province, was sentenced to 3.5 years and admitted to the prison on March 25, 2023. She was forced to work for 10 to 11 hours a day in Team Four in the Fourth Division, and was often beaten by inmates. One inmate doused her with cold water in early May 2023, while she was washing up. Another time, inmates hit her head when she was a little slow in doing something. At night, the inmates often woke her up and demanded that she accompany them to the restroom. Because of such harassment, Ms. Wang has been unable to sleep through the night. The inmates openly said that they were doing this to her because she is a Falun Gong practitioner.
