(Minghui.org) Two Liquan County, Shaanxi Province residents have been denied family visits since their prison admission last July, because they refuse to renounce their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Li Xianghong and Ms. Li Jing (no relation) were arrested in September 2022 for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. They were sentenced to 4 and 4.5 years, respectively, on February 19, 2024. They appealed with the Xianyang City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold their original verdicts on June 18, 2024.

Both women were admitted to the Shaanxi Province Women’s Prison in the capital city of Xi’an in July 2024. The prison put them on strict management without family visitation, because they remain firm in their faith.

Ms. Li Jing was previously arrested in July 2018 and sentenced to 16 months. She was released in May 2019, only to be arrested again three years later.

Persecution of Falun Gong at the Shaanxi Province Women’s Prison

Over the past two decades, the Shaanxi Province Women’s Prison has been actively following the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution policy against Falun Gong practitioners.

The prison has ten divisions. Newly admitted Falun Gong practitioners are usually assigned to the Ninth Division, also known as the Entry Team. They are usually held there for at least six months, sometimes up to a year, before being assigned to other divisions. The Tenth Division is the Strict Management Division, where practitioners are subjected to intensive physical and mental torment for upholding their faith. The other eight divisions are workshops for producing products made through forced labor.

Between 2002 and 2020, at least 250 Falun Gong practitioners have been detained and tortured in the prison at one point or another. The prison guards use all manner of means to grind down the practitioners’ will and force them to give up their practice. The prison has also published a series of manuals on how to torture and brainwash Falun Gong practitioners. Torture tactics include injection of poisonous or nerve-damaging drugs, isolation, exposure to the scorching sun for extended periods of time, beatings, wearing a straitjacket, standing or sitting still for extended periods, electric shocks, force-feeding, around-the-clock brainwashing, sleep deprivation, starvation, and denial of shower and toilet use.
