(Minghui.org) A Shulan City, Jilin Province resident was admitted to the Jilin Province Women’s Prison in December 2024 to serve a four-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Ms. Li Xiuling was arrested on June 5, 2024, during a mass arrest of over 50 local Falun Gong practitioners. Minghui.org learned in mid-January 2025 that she was sentenced to four years by the Shulan City Court at an unknown time and admitted to prison not long afterwards. Another practitioner arrested on the same day, Ms. Han Yuzhen, was also convicted by the same court, receiving one year and a 2,000-yuan fine.
Prior to her latest persecution, Ms. Li was arrested repeatedly for upholding her faith in Falun Gong.
She went to Beijing to appeal for her right to freedom of belief in September 1999 and was arrested. After four days of detention at the Daxing District Detention Center in Beijing, agents from the Shulan City Liaison Office in Beijing picked her up and brought her back to Shulan. They also seized the 1,140 yuan in cash she had with her. She was detained for 15 days before being released.
The local street committee kept a close eye on Ms. Li after she returned home. They harassed her at her vendor booth every day. Whenever there was a major political event or anniversary related to Falun Gong, they’d keep her at the street committee office for a while. The longest duration was 15 days in March 2000 when the Community Party was holding its two annual political meetings.
Ms. Li made another trip to Beijing in June 2000 and was arrested again. The Beicheng Police Station in Shulan picked her up and took her back to Shulan. They held her at the police station for a few hours upon arrival in Shulan and released her at midnight.
Deputy chief Du Yuzhuo of the Beicheng Police Station searched Ms. Li’s vendor booth on December 7, 2000 and confiscated a Falun Gong book. He then took her to the Heizuizi Women’s Labor Camp in Changchun (the capital city of Jilin Province) to serve a one-year term.
The labor camp guards forced Ms. Li to do manual labor for 16 hours a day. Her vision declined sharply during that time. She also witnessed another practitioner, Ms. Li Shixia (no relation), being shocked on the neck with several electric batons simultaneously and suffering severe burn injuries.
Ms. Li Xiuling was visiting her ill father in the hospital in mid-September 2005, when the police showed up and attempted to arrest her. She managed to escape.
Qi Ming from the local street committee seized Ms. Li on July 20, 2006 and took her to a brainwashing center. She was detained for one week.
