(Minghui.org) Eleven residents of Xianning City, Hubei Province remain incarcerated as of January 4, 2024 for upholding their shared faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999. Nine of them are serving prison sentences ranging from 3 to 8.5 years, and the remaining two are facing prosecution.
The following are brief summaries of their current situation.
1. Mr. Zhou Guoqiang, around 59 years old and a former employee of China’s Industrial and Commercial Bank, is serving 8.5 years at the Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang County, Hubei Province. He was arrested in Wuhan (capital city of Hubei Province) on December 26, 2018 and sentenced to 8.5 years with a 30,000-yuan fine on January 25, 2021.
2-3. Mr. Liu Shehong, 55, is serving 7.5 years at the Fanjiatai Prison. His wife, Ms. Zhao Xiujuan, is serving 7 years at the Wuhan City Women’s Prison. The couple was arrested in Jingzhou City, Hubei Province on September 4, 2019 and sentenced around December 3, 2020.
4. Ms. Wang Huiyuan, 67, is serving 7 years at the Wuhan City Women’s Prison. The retired judge from the Tongcheng County Court in Xianning City was arrested on August 30, 2017 and convicted on an unknown date in 2019.
5. Mr. Xiang Debin, around 60, is serving 7 years at the Fanjiatai Prison. He was arrested on June 22, 2017 and held at a detention center for three and a half years before being convicted in January 2021 and transferred to prison.
6. Mr. Hong Haihua, 66, is serving 7 years at the Fanjiatai Prison. He was arrested on May 3, 2018 and sentenced around 2020.
7. Ms. Li Yanhe, in her 50s, is serving 7 years at the Wuhan City Women’s Prison. She was arrested in 2021 and convicted on an unknown date.
8. Mr. He Guo’ao, in his 70s, is serving 3 years at the Fanjiatai Prison. The retired worker from the Tongcheng County Petroleum Company was arrested on March 6, 2021 and convicted on an unknown date.
9. Mr. Liu Haiquan, in his 40s, is serving 3 years at the Fanjiatai Prison. He was arrested on April 13, 2021 and stood trial in December 2021 before being convicted on an unknown date.
10. Mr. Wu Yuxun (also known as Wu Zonglun), 69, works at the Xian’an District Railroad Transportation Management Bureau. He was arrested on August 29, 2023, while talking to people about Falun Gong at the Xian’an District Railroad Station. The Xian’an District Domestic Security Office recently submitted his case to the Xian’an District Procuratorate, and he is facing indictment at the Xianning District Detention Center.
11. Mr. Chen Jianping, around 54, was arrested in April 2023 and is currently being held at the Xianning City Detention Center. He was previously thrice given forced labor, held in brainwashing centers four times, and had his home raided by police six times. He twice had a mental collapse while in detention as a result of the abuse. He was also under house arrest for three months and extorted of 4,100 yuan on an unknown date.
