Additional Persecution News from China – September 9, 2023 (18 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 16 cities or counties in 9 provinces, where at least 33 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Panjin City, Liaoning Province] Four Practitioners Sentenced to Prison

Four practitioners from the Huanxiling Oil Production Plant of Liaohe Oilfield were tried in the Xinglongtai District Court on July 18, 2023, and the verdicts were announced on September 7, 2023. Ms. Liu Yan was sentenced to two years in prison and fined 5,000 yuan; Ms. Liu Benling was sentenced to eighteen months in prison and fined 4,000 yuan; Mr. Liu Qingjiang was sentenced to one year and three months in prison and fined 3,000 yuan; Li Chunsheng was sentenced to one year in prison and fined 2,000 yuan.

2. [Lixin County, Anhui Province] Mr. Sun Lianyi and His Wife Ms. Zhang Jieqin Sentenced to Prison

Officers from the Chundian Township Police Station went to the home of Mr. Sun Lianyi and his wife Ms. Zhang Jieqin on the evening of June 10, 2022. Someone reported the couple to the police for talking to people about Falun Gong. The police confiscated their Falun Gong books and arrested Mr. Sun Lianyi. The police, including Li Lei from the Lixin County Police Department, returned the next day and ransacked their home again.

Ms. Zhang Jieqin was arrested and detained in the Haozhou City Detention Center at the end of 2022.

The couple was tried in the Qiaocheng District of Haozhou City on February 24 and March 3, 2023, respectively. They were sentenced to three years in prison and were each fined 5,000 yuan. Mr. Sun Lianyi appealed his case. Ms. Zhang Jieqin who is blind, was released on bail.

3. [Shihezi City, Xinjiang Province] Three Practitioners Missing

Ms. Yan Xiumin and another elderly practitioner were arrested in April 2023. Yin Jianjun was arrested and Yin's home was ransacked in April 2023. The three practitioners are currently missing.

Ms. Ma Shuting is still missing.

4. [Huaibei City, Anhui Province] Ms. Zhao Xinyun and Ms. Wei Hengqiu Imprisoned

Ms. Zhao Xinyun and Ms. Wei Hengqiu were tried in the Lieshan District Court in October 2022 and were sentenced to three and a half years and one and a half years in prison respectively. They were sent to the Hefei City Women’s Prison.

5. [Zhongning County, Ningxia Province] Mr. You Haijun Imprisoned

Mr. You Haijun was taken to the Shizuishan Prison on September 2, 2023. Several practitioners are detained in the same prison.

6. [Beijing] Ms. Shan Shujiang Detained

Ms. Shan Shujiang from Mulin Town of Shunyi District was sentenced to three years in prison by the Shunyi District Court in 2021. Because of her health, she was not detained.

It was recently learned that Ms. Shan was arrested around July 1, 2023, and is held in the Shunyi District Detention Center.

7. [Zhangjiakou City, Hebei Province] Three Practitioners Tried in Court

Three practitioners, Ms. Shi Yujie, Ms. Dong Haiyan, and Ms. Chen Shuling, were tried in the Qiaoxi District Court on the morning of September 5, 2023. Ms. Shi Yujie was emaciated and weighed less than 25 kg. When her husband saw her, he was shocked and burst into tears. Ms. Shi was very healthy four months ago. Two doctors were present during the trial.

8. [Heihe City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Li Shuling Arrested and Detained

Ms. Li Shuling from Yaoquan Scenic Area in Wudalianchi Town was recently arrested and sent to the Wudalianchi Detention Center.

9. [Weifang City, Shandong Province] Ms. Wang Guixiang and Ms. Li Xiuzhen Arrested

Ms. Wang Guixiang and Ms. Li Xiuzhen were arrested by officers from the Heng’an Police Station on the morning of September 7, 2023. Ms. Li was released later that day. Ms. Wang was taken to the Weifang City Detention Center that afternoon.

10. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Mr. Liu Guofeng Arrested and Detained

Mr. Liu Guifeng, 68, was arrested by officers from the Yuhuaxi Road Police Station on September 7, 2023, when he distributed information about Falun Gong. He was taken to a detention house the next day. His family is not allowed to visit him.

11. [Macheng City, Hubei Province] Ms. Hu Bibo and Ms. Wu Xiuqin Arrested

Ms. Hu Bibo and Ms. Wu Xiuqin were arrested when they talked to people about Falun Gong on September 7, 2023.

12. [Huangmei County, Hubei Province] Ms. Hu Xuefang Arrested and Detained

Ms. Hu Xuefang from Liuwang Village of Caishan Town, was arrested when she returned from her son’s home around September 2, 2023. She is held in the Huanggang Detention Center.

13. [Huaibei City, Anhui Province] Zhang Xiurong Arrested and Detained

Zhang Xiurong from the Huaibei Textile Factory was arrested by officers in Suixi County in July 2023. Zhang is currently detained in the No.2 Detention Center of Huaibei City.

14. [Inner Mongolia] Ms. Fan Meiling Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Fan Meiling from Inner Mongolia was sentenced to prison in Bazhou City, Hebei Province. She appealed and her case was filed in the Langfang City Intermediate Court on September 6, 2023.

15. [Xiangyang City, Hubei Province] Four Practitioners Persecuted

Ms. Zhang Yongqing was arrested and taken to the Yinji Detention House on April 20, 2023. She was detained for 15 days. Ms. Liu Xueyan was arrested at the same time and was also detained for 15 days.

Ms. Zhang Yongqing was arrested at her home again at 8 p.m. on September 1, 2023. Her home was ransacked. Her current whereabouts are unknown. Ms. Huang Yefeng was harassed that day.

Mr. Jiang Donglin was arrested at home by officers from the Migong Police Station on the afternoon of July 20, 2023. His home was ransacked and his Falun Gong lecture DVDs were confiscated. He was placed under 15-day detention but the sentence was not executed because of his health.

16. [Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Shao Xianrong Arrested and Detained

Ms. Shao Xianrong, 58, was arrested by officers in Nanta District on August 24, 2023. She was held in the Chaoyang District Detention Center. Because she refused to admit she was a prisoner, the head inmate in her cell refused to give her any toilet paper.

17. [Liaocheng City, Shandong] Ms. Chen Xiumei Arrested

Ms. Chen Xiumei was arrested by officers from the Ganguantun Township Police Station on August 30, 2023. The detention center refused to admit her because of her high blood pressure. She was released later that day.

18. [Baoding City, Hebei Province] Ms. Zhao Hexiang Arrested and Detained

Ms. Zhao Hexiang lives in Beipodi Village, Jinjiajing Township, Laiyuan County. She was arrested by plainclothes officers in a bus station on September 5, 2023 for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was sentenced to a 7-day detention.
