(Minghui.org) A Tonghua City, Jilin Province resident was recently sentenced to 4.5 years for exposing the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of his faith, Falun Gong.
Mr. Sun Xianting went out to distribute Falun Gong informational materials on the night of August 25, 2022 and was followed by several agents from the Shanxia Police Station in Erdaojiang District, Tonghua City. They proceeded to arrest him and raid his home, confiscating several thousand yuan in cash and other valuables.
Mr. Sun was taken to the Liuhe County Detention Center. Without notifying his family, the Liuhe County Court held a secret hearing of his case and soon sentenced him to 4.5 years. He was transferred to Jilin Prison in August 2023.
Upon finding out about his sentencing, Mr. Sun’s wife was so traumatized that she had a relapse of her heart disease. She is still hospitalized and on oxygen at the time of writing. The doctors warned that she may need a stent put in her heart. Her daughter was beyond devastated.
Prior to Mr. Sun, Minghui.org has reported on the wrongful convictions of three other Tonghua residents who were also arrested last year for their faith in Falun Gong.
Ms. Lu Zhenyue, 76, was arrested on July 18, 2022 and sentenced to seven years in July 2023. She is currently hospitalized due to unknown health issues.
Mr. Pan Hongming and Mr. Yue Chunguang were arrested on August 11, 2022 and sentenced to prison around July 2023, with Mr. Pan receiving three years and Mr. Yue two years. The police and community workers had promised to check in on Mr. Yue’s mother-in-law, who had relied on him for care after his wife’s passing, but they never did. The elderly woman later died alone at home.
