(Minghui.org) Being immersed in Master Li Hongzhi’s benevolent, saving grace over the past ten years of practicing Falun Dafa, I have a lot to say. I’d like to share my experience of playing a supporting role while working with another practitioner to tell people the facts about Falun Dafa and the persecution.
I work with Ms. Bao, who is a senior practitioner. She is good at talking to people, and it usually only takes her a couple of sentences to create a congenial atmosphere. People would listen to her and quit the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and it youth organizations. So I naturally fell into a supporting role.
I thought my role would be to send forth righteous thoughts, observe the environment, and write down the names of people wanting to quit the Party. But I soon realized it wasn’t quite that simple.
Ms. Bao had different things to talk about to different people. As for me, I needed to adjust and respond appropriately to different situations. I couldn’t just send righteous thoughts and remain silent, nor should I talk out of turn. I had to speak at the appropriate point. As to what I should say and how to say it, I needed to have a good grasp of the subject.
Once when we met a middle-aged woman, Ms. Bao touched on the fact that the CCP officials are so corrupt they couldn’t care less about ordinary citizens. The woman acknowledged this. However, as soon as Ms. Bao mentioned quitting the CCP, the woman remained silent. She was probably deceived by the CCP’s propaganda and had some misunderstandings about Dafa. So I joined their conversation to talk about the self-immolation incident on Tiananmen Square being staged.
Ms. Bao brought up other things, such as Dafa being spread widely around the world, and the hidden Chinese character stone discovered in Guizhou Province. In the end, this woman quit the Party and its affiliates.
Master Gives Me the Wisdom to Say the Right Thing
In our work together, it was common practice for me to provide space for Ms. Bao so that those listening would not be disturbed. When people came in pairs or in a group, I’d try my best to talk to someone else so she could focus on talking to just that one person. I’m not eloquent, however, and sometimes had trouble finding a topic to talk about. No matter how hard I tried, it was a big challenge.
But when I truly let go of myself and maintained a pure mindset, Master gave me wisdom by casting the right words to say into my mind. Sometimes, when I ran into an awkward situation, a sudden inspiration would help me break through the deadlock, and everything would go smoothly.
We talked to an elderly man who was sitting by a roadside flower bed. After Ms. Bao talked to him for a while, she still couldn’t bring up what she wanted to say. I was sending righteous thoughts on the side and noticed that she was having trouble finding where to start.
I said to the man with a smile, “Hello there! Did you ever work for the army? You still have the upright posture of a soldier.”
He replied, “That’s right! I used to be a commander! Prior to my retirement, I was the deputy president in a factory.” Ms. Bao then started talking about corruption in the army and helped him quit the Party.
Practitioners often run into all kinds of people when they go out to clarify the truth. Working well with other practitioners is necessary to safeguard the Fa. We shouldn’t get into arguments with people, but should try our best to help them understand that Falun Dafa is good and the CCP is evil, so they can position themselves for the future. As for what to say and what to do, it seems difficult, yet it’s not really difficult. With Master’s empowerment, we can turn the situation around for the better.
Ms. Bao is 70 years old. She has kept Master’s words in mind and isn’t afraid of the scorching sun or the harsh winter. She goes out every day to help save people. She is a respectable senior. However, there were some younger people who gave her the cold shoulder.
We once saw a dark-skinned young woman handing out pamphlets. Ms. Bao said to her kindly, “Hello there! You look like you’re from India.”
Before Ms. Bao could continue, the young girl said to her sternly, “How do I look like an Indian? I’m Chinese!” Her reaction embarrassed Ms. Bao.
I quickly interjected, “She just wanted to praise you, as Indian women are beautiful. India is where Buddhism originated, as people there believe in the divine. They are generally very kind and protected by gods. She just wanted to praise you, a pretty, nice girl, that’s all.”
Ms. Bao then told her that Falun Dafa is the Buddha Law and asked her to recite “Falun Dafa is wonderful!” and “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is wonderful!” to have a good future. This girl also quit the CCP.
Taking the Main Role When Needed
This supporting role not only requires one to master different skills, but also to take on the main role when required.
One time, we ran into a family of three: Grandmother, mother, and grandson. When Ms. Bao started talking to the grandmother, the mother listened in. However, the grandson began to pull the mother away to go across the road. I thought to myself: This won’t do! She’ll miss the chance to listen to the truth if she crosses the road. We can’t have her lose this opportunity to be saved.
I walked to catch up with her as she was waiting to cross the road and started talking. She agreed to quit the CCP. The grandmother, whom Ms. Bao was talking to, also quit the Party.
We have run into the following scenario a few times. Ms. Bao was talking to someone, while the person listened. However, when it came to quitting the CCP, he only smiled without expressing his stance. Even though she tried to persuade him, he remained neutral. The interesting thing was that he then looked at me while I was sending righteous thoughts over on the side. I figured that I shouldn’t cut into their conversation, so I smiled at him and nodded. He then agreed to quit the Party. That was so interesting!
There have been so many different situations, yet the purpose of saving people will never change. As long as people can be saved, practitioners can either work together or individually. Without Master’s painstaking arrangements and benevolent protection, it’d be very hard for us to do well.
Our way of clarifying the truth needs to be flexible. It all depends on the situation. The people we run into are from all walks of life. When we work well with one another, things go smoothly; otherwise our efforts won’t achieve a good effect. But we always take the initiative to look inward to rectify ourselves, so as to fulfill our vows.
Thank you, Master for having arranged such a great practitioner for me to work with. Her sense of responsibility and mission of caring for all sentient beings motivates me. It also helps me see the gaps between us so that I can rectify myself.
This year, we knew that students from the surrounding counties were taking their college entrance exams in our city, so we decided to walk along both sides of the road in front of the school entrance. We managed to help over ten students quit the CCP.
We learned that more students would be coming on the last day of the exams in the afternoon. Ms. Bao suggested that we go out again that afternoon to help save them. But with the sweltering heat, and because I’d been running a temperature that had sapped my strength, I was reluctant to go.
However, Ms. Bao said firmly, “Don’t worry. I can go by myself. I’ll save as many people as I can.” She is 70 years old. In this extremely hot weather, she only thought about sentient beings and her responsibility as a practitioner. I was so moved and had no excuse not to step forward. I remembered that after the students finished the exam and left, we still didn’t want to leave and waited a bit longer to see if any more students would be coming out from the school. Only after there was nobody left did we finally leave.
During the process of playing a supporting role, my selfishness would sometimes gain the upper hand and I’d think: Since Ms. Bao talked to these people and helped them quit the Party, what mighty virtue would I have? I thought that Ms. Bao was very capable in saving sentient beings and would have done just as well without me. Then what role did I play? I only accompanied her to walk around the streets. But every time I’d think this, Master’s words appeared in my mind, “... Attaining credit and virtue is of no concern ...” (“In One Thought,” Hong Yin II)
I understood Master’s hint: I must not worry about any personal losses and gains. As long as people can be saved, that is my greatest wish!
