(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 16 cities or counties in 7 provinces, where at least 35 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Shanghai] Mr. He Binggang and Ms. Zhang Yibo Face Trial

Mr. He Binggang and Ms. Zhang Yibo were scheduled to be tried in the Fengxian District Court at 9:45 a.m. on May 18, 2023.

2. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Wang Jiwu on Hunger Strike for 48 Days

Mr. Wang Jiwu from Gongchenghao Village, Handian Town, the Shuangcheng District, was arrested at the gate of the residential community where he rented an apartment at around 6:30 p.m. on April 4, 2023. He is being held in the Shuangcheng District Detention Center. This is the third time officers from the Zhanqian Police Station had arrested him.

It was recently learned that the Shuangcheng District Court tried Mr. Wang via video link. As of May 12, Mr. Wang had been on a hunger strike for 48 days, and the detention center was force-feeding him every day.

3. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Two Practitioners Arrested

Ms. Lyu, in her 70s, was staying with her daughter in Dalian City. Another female practitioner, about 50 years old, came to Dalian from Jinzhou City to visit Ms. Lyu. Plainclothes officers from the Xinggong Street Police Station arrested the pair when they distributed information about Falun Gong near Xinggong Street in the Shahekou District of Dalian City. They are being held in the Yaojia Detention Center.

4. [Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Liang Mingxiu Arrested

Ms. Liang Mingxiu from the No. 5 Group in Dabao Village, Longfeng Town, was arrested by the Pengzhou City police. Her whereabouts are unknown.

5. [Xianghe County, Hebei Province] Mr. Zhang Xian and Mr. Wang Zhishan Face Trial Again

Mr. Zhang Xian and Mr. Wang Zhishan were scheduled for a second hearing in the Xianghe County Court at 9 a.m. on May 23, 2023. Their last hearing was on March 28, 2023.

6. [Linjiang City, Jilin Province] Ms. Cao Yulan’s Home Ransacked

Without a warrant, eight people broke into Ms. Cao Yulan’s home and ransacked the place around 3 p.m. on May 11, 2023. They confiscated two recent articles by the founder of Falun Gong and yuan bills with information about Falun Gong printed on them.

They asked Ms. Cao where the money came from and showed her some practitioners’ photos for her to identify. Ms. Cao did not cooperate. They said they would detain her for 15 days. On the assurance of her son, they did not take her away at that time. They said they would take her away on the morning of May 12.

7. [Shanhaiguan City, Hebei Province] Several Practitioners Arrested

More than 10 people from the Qinhuangdao City Police Department, the Shanhaiguan Police Department, the Shanhaiguan Police Station, the Shanhaiguan Sub-district Administration Office, and the community management office went to Mr. Zhu Fengchun’s house at 8 a.m. on May 10, 2023, but he did not open the door.

The officers cut off the electricity to Mr. Zhu’s house, climbed over his courtyard wall, and entered his house. They ransacked it from around 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. They took a printer and printing paper.

Zhao Huanzhen, Jin Chaohong, Mu Ruiqiu, and Deng Guiyun, who were visiting Mr. Zhu, were arrested. Deng and Mu were released. Zhao and Jin are being held in the Qinhuangdao City Detention Center for 15 days.

On the afternoon of May 11, four people from the Qinhuangdao City Police Department, the Shanhaiguan Police Department, the police station, the sub-district administration office, and the community management office went to Mr. Zhu’s home and ordered him to answer questions and sign the transcript. Mr. Zhu refused.

8. [Cangzhou City, Hebei Province] Ms. Cao Fengqin and Ms. Sun Zhichao Held in Detention Center

Ms. Cao Fengqin and Ms. Sun Zhichao from Xian County were recently arrested by officers from the Xian County Police Department. Ms. Sun was taken to the Renqiu City Detention Center, and Ms. Cao was held in the Xian County Detention Center.

9. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Mr. Zhao Xudong and Daughter Ms. Zhao Guokun Held in Detention Center Again

Mr. Zhao Xudong, 78, was arrested at home around 8 p.m. on May 4, 2023. His son Mr. Zhao Guoxing and daughter Ms. Zhao Guokun were also arrested. His son was released. He and his daughter were taken to the Jilin City Detention Center on May 5.

In August and September 2022, Mr. Zhao Xudong was repeatedly harassed at home as well as over the phone by Hadawan Police Station officers and community management personnel in the Changyi District. On September 27, several officers from the police station went to his home again, ransacked it, and confiscated his personal belongings. They arrested him and his daughter, who came to visit him. Both father and daughter were held in detention centers. They were later released on bail.

10. [Linkou County, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Liu Benzhi Arrested

Ms. Liu Benzhi was arrested by Gucheng Police Station officers on the morning of May 11, 2023. Further information is pending.

11. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Practitioners Yuan and Meng Held in Custody

Yuan and Meng (first names and genders unknown) were reported to the police while talking to people about Falun Gong at the Anziling Township farmers market in Qinglong County on May 8, 2023. They were taken to the Anziling Township Police Station for interrogation. On the morning of May 9, they were taken to the Qinhuangdao Public Security Hospital for a physical exam. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. they both developed serious illness symptoms. They were then taken to the Qinhuangdao City Detention Center and Lockup Center. Neither place would accept them.

From May 10 to May 12, the two practitioners were held in the basement of the Qinhuangdao City Police Department (a dark room used for interrogating suspects) and in the public security hospital. The heads of the Qinhuangdao City Police Department and the Qinglong County Police Department boasted, “We have to lock up those two Falun Gong practitioners.”

12. [Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province] Mr. Hou Lijun Held in Detention Center

Mr. Hou Lijun was arrested by officers from the Xiaojingyu Police Station in the Jinyuan District around April 5, 2023. He is being held in the Taiyuan City No. 1 Detention Center. The Wanbailin District Court was instrumental in persecuting Mr. Hou.

13. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Yu Lamei Held in Detention Center

Ms. Yu Lamei from Wuchang District was held in the detention center for two weeks.

14. [Shulan City, Jilin Province] Several Practitioners Harassed

Two police officers and two plainclothes officers from the Qili Police Station knocked on Ms. Zhang Dongxia’s door around 6:20 p.m. on May 8, 2023. They took pictures from outside the window with their cell phones.

On May 9, two officers in the Beicheng Sub-district went to Ms. Li Guilan’s home to ransack it. They did not find anything of interest.

At 6 a.m. on May 9, three officers ransacked Ms. Yin Limei’s home, videotaped the proceedings with their cell phones, but left empty-handed. Around 7 p.m. two more people rang Ms. Yin’s doorbell. On the evening of May 9, seven or eight officers went to harass a practitioner named Dou.

On the morning of May 9, four or five officers ransacked Wang Fengjian’s home.

Wang Jie (gender unknown) was arrested for talking to people about Falun Gong. Further information is pending.

15. [Puyang City, Henan Province] Zhang Qingling’s and Zhang Lihua’s Homes Ransacked

On the morning of May 8, 2023, 610 Office personnel from Zhongyuan Oilfield ransacked the homes of Zhang Qingling and Zhang Lihua (their genders are unknown), confiscated a laptop computer and Falun Gong books. They threatened to take Zhang Lihua to a brainwashing session on Monday.

16. [Suining City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Jiang Taiju Arrested

Ms. Jiang Taiju, 70, was followed by a young man after she told him about Falun Gong. When Ms. Jiang went to the gate of Suining Central Hospital, the young man told the hospital security guards to arrest her and take her to the Kaixuan Road Police Station. The officers searched her bag and confiscated over 300 yuan with Falun Gong facts printed on them. They also confiscated three copies of a recent article by the founder of Falun Gong “Why Save Sentient Beings.”

That night, the officers called her family to the police station. They told her to sign paperwork, which she refused to do. The officers wanted to handcuff her. They forced her husband to sign the paperwork. They did not let her go until 8 p.m.

17. [Suining City, Sichuan Province] Mr. Wang Qijun and Wife Ms. Hou Suhua Arrested

Mr. Wang Qijun and his wife Ms. Hou Suhua live in Hengshan Town in the Anju District. On the morning of February 23, 2023, officers ransacked their home. When Mr. Wang tried to stop them, they punched and kicked him and handcuffed his hands behind his back. They confiscated all his Falun Gong books, audio players, and video players. They also pushed Mr. Wang and Ms. Hou into a police car and took them to the Jiefu Road Police Station.

They interrogated Mr. Wang and asked him if he recognized anyone in the pictures. When they realized that they could not get more information from him, they told him to sign paperwork and then he could go home. He refused. They called his son and his daughter to the police station and told them to sign before they let Mr. Wang go.

The officers held Ms. Hou until after 12 p.m. and then took her to Nanjin Road Police Station. At around 5 p.m. the officers took her to the procuratorate and told her to sign a piece of paper. She refused to, so the officers forced her to press her fingerprints on it before letting her go.
