(Minghui.org) The following five residents of Xiangtan City, Hunan Province are still being jailed for upholding their faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Mr. Peng Shiqing, a carpenter, and Mr. Wang Qingsheng, around 71, were among the more than twenty local Falun Gong practitioners arrested on August 14, 2017, by agents from Xiangtan City Police Department, Yuhu District Police Department, Yuetang District Police Department, Gaoxin District Police Department, and Yaowan Police Station. Many of the arrested practitioners were later sentenced to prison and some are still serving time at the time of writing.
Mr. Wang is held at Wangling Prison in Zhuzhou City, Hunan Province, and will finish serving his six-year term around August 13, 2023.
Mr. Peng is also held at Wangling Prison. He is scheduled to finish his nine-year sentence around August 13, 2026. His father fell ill after his arrest and died in April 2019, at the age of 83. He was not allowed to see his father one last time.
Ms. Mo Liqiong, 53, was arrested on February 5, 2021. The Yuhu District Court sentenced her to one year and seven months with a 5,000-yuan fine on July 27, 2022. The Yuhu District Procuratorate appealed the sentence with the Xiangtan City Intermediate Court, which ruled on August 30 that year to increase Ms. Mo’s prison sentence to 2.5 years and her fine to 10,000 yuan. She is serving time at Hunan Province Women’s Prison and will be released in August 2023.
Ms. Hu Dongxia, around 74, was arrested and had her home raided on April 7, 2021. The Yuhu District Court sentenced her to three years in Hunan Province Women’s Prison in May 2022. She is set for release around April 6, 2024.
Ms. Lu Mengjun, around 61, was arrested at home by agents from Yuhu District Police Department on June 2, 2020. She is serving a 7.5-year term at Hunan Province Women’s Prison and will be released at the end of 2027. Prior to her latest imprisonment, she was twice given a four-year prison sentence for her faith in Falun Gong.
