(Minghui.org) Mr. Huang Ruhong, 67, from Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province has remained in custody since he was arrested at his son’s home in Guangzhou (the capital city of the province) on September 20, 2023 for practicing his faith, Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

The arresting officers from the Panyu District Domestic Security Office and the Nancun Police Station raided Mr. Huang Ruhong’s home in Shenzhen (about 60 miles away). They also confiscated his son’s car. The son does not practice Falun Gong.

The Panyu District Procuratorate issued a formal arrest warrant against Mr. Huang on October 27. He is now facing indictment while being held at the Panyu District Detention Center. His wife, Ms. Wei Ruihua, is recovering from a stroke at the Baiyun District Rehabilitation Hospital in Guangzhou City. The couple’s son struggled to seek justice for Mr. Huang while caring for his mother in the hospital.

Past Persecution

After Mr. Huang began practicing Falun Gong in September 1996, he gradually quit his bad habits and regained his health. He also became a more sincere, considerate, and tolerant person. His wife Ms. Wei joined him in the practice too. The couple has been repeatedly targeted over the years for upholding their faith.

Both Husband and Wife Given Two-Year Forced Labor Terms Following Arrests in 2007

On April 16, 2007, the Luohu District Police Department shut off the water supply to the couple’s home. When Ms. Wei walked outside to see what was going on, the police seized her. They took her to the Guangdong Province Women’s Labor Camp on May 2 that year to serve a two-year term.

Mr. Huang was arrested at a local hotel on the same day as Ms. Wei. It was unclear whether he worked at the hotel or happened to be visiting. At the time, the couple’s two children were set to take the high-school entrance exams and college entrance exams. The children had trouble focusing on their studies with both of their parents in detention.

The arresting officers from the local Domestic Security Division and the 610 Office took Mr. Huang to the Dongxiao Police Station. Officer Liu Zhiyong and others beat him so hard that he passed out several times during the interrogation. They forcibly photographed him and collected his fingerprints and attempted to make him say he was guilty. On May 16, 2007, the police took him to the Shenzhen City Second Labor Camp to serve a two-year term.

The labor camp guards used a large syringe to draw blood from Mr. Huang and he almost fainted. They later moved him to Team Ten, which was designated to torture steadfast Falun Gong practitioners. They placed Mr. Huang in a dark room and took turns torturing him. He was forced to sit on a small bench for long periods of time until his buttocks festered. After the sitting torture, the guards forced him to run laps in the field. Sometimes they didn’t allow him to sleep or eat.

Husband Sentenced to 3.5 Years Following Arrest in 2017

Mr. Huang went to Luoyang Town in Ruyuan County, Guangdong Province to distribute Falun Gong informational materials on July 17, 2017. He was reported to the police. Instead of arresting him on the spot, officers from the Ruyuan County Domestic Security Office and the Luoyang Town Police Station followed him all the way back to Shenzhen and arrested him at his workplace. They next raided his home and took him to the Ruyuan County Detention Center. He was given criminal detention two weeks later.

The Ruyuan County Court heard Mr. Huang’s case on December 13, 2017. His two lawyers defended his innocence in exercising his constitutional right to freedom of belief, but the judge still sentenced him to three and a half years with a 10,000-yuan fine on December 29th.
