Fuyang City, Anhui Province: Nine Residents Wrongly Convicted for Their Faith, Five of Them Still Detained

(Minghui.org) Nine Fuyang City, Anhui Province, residents were sentenced to prison by the Linquan County Court on February 3, 2021, for practicing Falun Gong.

Three of them have now been released after serving their terms, one is serving time at home after being denied admission to the local detention center, and the remaining five are continuing their legal efforts to seek justice while still incarcerated.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Below is the sentencing information regarding the nine practitioners:

Ms. Wang Cuilan was sentenced to 10 years and fined 50,000 yuan.Ms. Wang Lanying was sentenced to 4 years and 10 months and fined 20,000 yuan.Mr. Yu Zuzhi was sentenced to 4 years and fined 10,000 yuan.Ms. Wang Cuiping was sentenced to 3 years and fined 10,000 yuan.Ms. Wang Mingzhi was sentenced to 1.5 years and fined 10,000 yuan.Mr. Li Haitao was sentenced to 3 years and fined 10,000 yuan.Mr. Li Chunmin was sentenced to 2.5 years and fined 10,000 yuan.Mr. Sun Chuanfu was sentenced to 1 year and fined 10,000 yuan.Mr. Sun Yuhe was sentenced to 8 months and fined 3,000 yuan.

Ms. Wang Cuilan, Ms. Wang Lanying, and Ms. Wang Cuiping are in the Fuyang City Detention Center. Mr. Li Haitao and Mr. Li Chunmin are in the Linquan County Detention Center.

Mr. Sun Yuhe was released on February 11, 2021; Mr. Sun Chuanfu was released on June 11, 2021; and Ms. Wang Mingzhi was released on December 12, 2021. Mr. Yu was denied admission due to his advanced age and physical condition and has been serving time at home since February 8, 2021.

Mr. Yu Zuzhi and Mr. Li Chunmin were arrested on July 22, 2020, while the other seven practitioners were arrested in a police sweep on June 12, 2020.

Below are details of the arrests of the nine wrongly convicted practitioners as well as three other practitioners who were also targeted in the June 12 police sweep.

Arrests of Ms. Wang Cuilan, Ms. Wang Lanying, Ms. Wang Cuiping, and Mr. Li Haitao

Ms. Wang Cuilan, Ms. Wang Lanying, Ms. Wang Cuiping, and Mr. Li Haitao were arrested at Ms. Wang Lanying’s home at around 6 p.m. on June 12, 2020. The police ransacked all four practitioners’ homes and confiscated large quantities of office supplies used to print Falun Gong informational materials for distribution.

The items taken from Ms. Wang Lanying’s home were: one laptop, 10 printers, 2 DVD burners, 3 paper cutters, 3 binding machines, 2 laminators, 1,132 informational booklets, 1,808 flyers, 425 desk calendars, 17 CDs, 17 banknotes with information about Falun Gong printed on them (as a way to counter the strict censorship in China), 6,069 yuan in cash, and consumable items such as toner cartridges, printing paper, plastic envelopes, and plastic film. No checklists were issued for the items taken from her home.

At Ms. Wang Cuilan’s home, the police confiscated 44 Falun Gong books, 13 informational booklets, 10 flash drives, 10 seal stamps, and 8 informational cards.

At Ms. Wang Cuiping’s home, the police took 111 Falun Gong books, 11 Falun Gong magazines, 2 wall calendars with information about Falun Gong, 2 photos of Falun Gong’s founder, 1 seal stamp, 2 informational DVDs, 4 greeting cards, and 1 keepsake.

At Mr. Li Haitao’s home, the police confiscated 56 Falun Gong books, 1 photo of Falun Gong’s founder, 1 seal stamp, 1 magazine, 4 informational cards, 2 DVDs, and 1 keepsake.

Ms. Wang Cuilan, Ms. Wang Cuiping, Ms. Wang Lanying, and Ms. Dai Min (whose arrest is discussed in the next section) were held in the Fuyang Detention Center. Mr. Li Haitao was admitted to the Linquan County Detention Center.

Arrests of Ms. Dai Min, Ms. Zhou Guizhi and Ms. Liu Yueying

Ms. Dai Min, Ms. Zhou Guizhi, and Ms. Liu Yueying were also arrested on June 12, 2020, and had their homes ransacked. Ms. Liu and Ms. Zhou, both in their 80s, had been recorded by surveillance camera distributing Falun Gong materials earlier on.

Ms. Liu was released at around 11 p.m. that day. Ms. Zhou was held in a cage overnight. It was so small she couldn’t even extend her limbs. Her legs were swollen by the next day and she couldn’t stand up. She was released in the afternoon.

Ms. Dai, Ms. Liu, and Ms. Zhou were later cleared of prosecution.

Arrests of Mr. Sun Yuhe, Mr. Sun Chuanfu, and Ms. Wang Mingzhi

Also on the evening of June 12, the police broke into Mr. Sun Yuhe and Mr. Sun Chuanfu’s homes, handcuffed them, and took them away. Both of them were held in the Linquan County Detention Center.

The police took 73 Falun Gong books, 41 Falun Gong keepsakes, one flyer, one sticker, and one photo of Falun Gong’s founder from Mr. Sun Yuhe’s home.

At Mr. Sun Chuanfu’s home, the police confiscated 10 Falun Gong books, 835 flyers, 120 stickers, and one Falun Gong keepsake.

Ms. Wang Mingzhi, who was also arrested on June 12, 2020, had 112 Falun Gong books and magazines, 19 informational flyers, 17 cards, and 87 CDs taken from her.

Arrests of Mr. Yu Zuzhi and Mr. Li Chunmin

Mr. Yu Zuzhi was arrested at his daughter’s home at around 8 p.m. on July 22. Other officers searched the homes of Mr. Yu, his son, and his daughter at the same time. A motorcycle they owned was impounded but later returned.

Other items taken from Mr. Yu included: 1 Falun Gong book, 1 photo of Falun Gong’s founder, 1 wall calendar, 1 desk calendar, 5 stickers, 7 keepsakes, and 1 media player.

Mr. Li Chunmin was also arrested on the evening of July 22 at his son’s home. The police ransacked both his and his son’s homes and recorded the entire raid. They spent two hours searching every corner of his home, including inside a bag of rice. Mr. Li’s 4 photos of Falun Gong’s founder, 1 computer, and 1 media player were confiscated. The police said they had been monitoring them since early 2020.

Both Mr. Yu and Mr. Li were also taken to the Linquan County Detention Center.
