(Minghui.org) Nine Fuyang City, Anhui Province residents were sentenced to prison by the Linquan County Court for their faith in Falun Gong on February 3, 2021.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Four practitioners were tried and sentenced in the Linquan County Court:
Ms. Wang Cuilan was sentenced to 10 years and fined 50,000 yuan.Ms. Wang Lanying was sentenced to 4 years and fined 20,000 yuan.Ms. Wang Cuiping was sentenced to 3 years and fined 10,000 yuan.Ms. Wang Mingzhi was sentenced to 1.5 years and fined 10,000 yuan.
The remaining five practitioners were tried and sentenced at a makeshift courtroom at the Linquan County Detention Center:
Mr. Yu Zuzhi was sentenced to 4 years and fined 10,000 yuan.Mr. Li Haitao was sentenced to 3 years and fined 10,000 yuan.Mr. Li Chunmin was sentenced to 2.5 years and fined 10,000 yuan.Mr. Sun Chuanfu was sentenced to 1 year and fined 10,000 yuan.Mr. Sun Yuhe was sentenced to 8 months and fined 3,000 yuan.
Prior to both court sessions, the court forced the practitioners’ lawyers to leave and arranged the judge-appointed lawyers to enter guilty pleas for the practitioners. The practitioners’ family members weren’t allowed to attend the session in person but had to watch online videos.
Ms. Wang Cuilan, Ms. Wang Lanying, Ms. Wang Cuiping, and Mr. Li Haitao were arrested at Ms. Wang Lanying’s home at around 6 p.m. on June 12, 2020. The police ransacked the place and confiscated Ms. Wang Lanying’s computer, printer, Falun Gong materials, and large quantities of office supplies that she had used to print Falun Gong information materials for distribution.
Another three practitioners, Ms. Dai Min, Ms. Zhou Guizhi, and Ms. Liu Yueying, were also arrested on the same day and had their homes ransacked. Ms. Liu and Ms. Zhou, both in their 80s, had been recorded by surveillance camera distributing Falun Gong materials earlier on.
Ms. Wang Cuilan, Ms. Wang Cuiping, Ms. Wang Lanying, and Ms. Dai Min were held at the Fuyang Detention Center. Mr. Li Haitao was kept at the Linquan County Detention Center.
Ms. Liu was released at around 11 p.m. that day. Ms. Zhou was kept in a metal cage overnight, where she couldn’t even extend her limbs. Her legs became swollen on the next day and she couldn’t stand up. She was released in the afternoon.
Ms. Wang Lanying and Ms. Dai Min were released on June 15 due to their health condition. Ms. Dai, Ms. Liu, and Ms. Zhou were later cleared of prosecution.
Also on the evening of June 12, the police broke into Mr. Sun Yuhe and Mr. Sun Chuanfu’s homes, handcuffed them, and took them away. Mr. Sun Yuhe’s two computers, two cellphones, and Falun Gong books were confiscated. Mr. Sun Chuanfu also had his Falun Gong books and materials taken away. Both of them were held at the Linquan County Detention Center.
Mr. Yu Zuzhi was arrested at his daughter’s home at around 8 p.m. on July 22. Several groups of officers searched the homes of Mr. Yu and his son and daughter at the same time. A motorcycle of theirs was impounded and later returned.
Mr. Li Chunmin was also arrested on the evening of July 22 at his son’s home. The police ransacked both his and his son’s homes and recorded the entire raid. They spent two hours searching every corner of his home, including inside the rice bag. Mr. Li’s four photos of Falun Gong’s founder, a computer, and a media player were confiscated. The police said they had been monitoring them since early 2020.
Both Mr. Yu and Mr. Li were also taken to the Linquan County Detention Center.
The details about Ms. Wang Mingzhi’s arrest remain unclear at the time of writing.
Prior to Ms. Wang Cuilan’s latest lengthy term, the retired nurse had been arrested seven times. She was given two labor camp terms and sentenced to three years in prison. She was tortured at the Suzhou Women’s Prison and became emaciated and had bruises on her body.
