(Minghui.org) A Changchun City, Jilin Province, man was taken to a local hospital for resuscitation on April 18, 2022, while serving a 3.5-year term for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. The authorities blocked Mr. Yu Chunbo’s family from visiting him, citing the pandemic as an excuse.
His deeply concerned family has applied to the Gongzhuling Prison to release him on medical parole. It’s not clear whether the prison has made any decision.
This is the third time that Mr. Yu has been hospitalized since his arrest on November 12, 2020, for practicing Falun Gong. His wife, Ms. Li Fengxia, who doesn’t practice Falun Gong, was also arrested. She was released on February 12, 2022, after serving her term of one year and three months.
The couple’s arrests and subsequent sentencing dealt Mr. Yu’s elderly mother a heavy blow. She fell ill and later passed away.
Prior to the latest sentencing, Mr. Yu was previously arrested in 2000 and given two years at the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp.
While he was serving time, his younger brother, Mr. Yu Chunhai, was also arrested for practicing Falun Gong and incarcerated at the same labor camp. The torture and intensive labor took a toll on the younger Mr. Yu’s health. He struggled with poor health for three years after his release and passed away on January 21, 2007, at the age of 32.
