Judge Rushes Through Hearings of Three Falun Gong Cases in Less Than Five Minutes Each

(Minghui.org) Judge Wang Yanan of the Chaoyang District Court in Changchun City, Jilin Province heard three Falun Gong cases on May 24, 2021, spending less than five minutes on each hearing. 

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

One of the cases involved Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Yu Chunbo and his wife Ms. Li Fengxia (who doesn’t practice Falun Gong), while the other two cases were against practitioners Ms. Li Guiling and Ms. Yin Jun, respectively.

Judge Wang didn’t inform any of the practitioners’ families or their lawyers of the hearings. All four defendants appeared through video conferences, which, however, didn’t show any images, but only sound, at their respective detention centers. The judge also forbade the practitioners from defending themselves and quickly wrapped up each hearing for less than five minutes each.

Mr. Yu and Ms. Li were arrested at home on November 12, 2020. Mr. Yu developed a medical condition and was unable to eat while being held at the Changchun City No. 2 Detention Center. His body weight quickly plummeted and he was hospitalized on December 13. His lawyer visited him at the hospital on February 2 and he remained very weak after 1.5 months of treatment.

On April 23, 2021, the guards informed Mr. Yu’s family that he was hospitalized again the day before. Although he was able to eat by this time, he couldn’t eat much and was having difficulty having bowel movements. 

The other two practitioners, Ms. Yin, 40, and Ms. Li Guiling, 55, were arrested on June 18, 2020 and January 6, 2021, respectively. They are currently held at the Changchun City No. 4 Detention Center, together with Ms. Li Fengxia. The detention center doesn’t allow them to leave the site for court appearance or any meetings with judiciary officials.
