(Minghui.org) A Guiyang City, Guizhou Province resident in her 70s was sentenced to seven years for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Chen Kefang was arrested in November 2020 for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong at a bus station. The police ransacked her home. The items confiscated from her home filled up a car.

Ms. Chen was questioned at the Yunyan District Police Department. She was released on bail after seven days of detention. The Nanming District Court sentenced her to seven years on November 19, 2021. Her family is appealing the verdict on her behalf.

In the past few years, the communist regime has intensified its persecution of elderly Falun Gong practitioners. In 2021, 58 Falun Gong practitioners age 60 or older were confirmed to have died as a result of the persecution, 278 were sentenced to prison, 1,318 were arrested and harassed, 142 had their pensions withheld, 55 had their blood drawn against their will, and 13 were forced to leave their homes to avoid further harassment. These incidents took place either in 2021 or earlier. Due to China's strict information blockade, the persecution can’t always be reported in a timely manner, nor is all the information readily available.
