(Minghui.org) A Dandong City, Liaoning Province resident stood trial on October 19, 2022 for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999. The judge attempted to order her to renounce Falun Gong or pay a fine in exchange for a lighter sentence.
Ms. Pan Jing was hosting a birthday party for her 89-year-old mother on September 3, 2021, when a group of police officers suddenly broke in and arrested her. Soon after the police submitted her case to the Zhen’an District Procuratorate, the prosecutor returned her case, citing insufficient evidence. She was released on bail on September 17.
A year later, on September 16, 2022, Ms. Pan was informed that the police had submitted her case to the Zhen’an District Procuratorate again. Four days later, she learned from the Zhen’an District Court that she had been indicted.
The court scheduled a hearing for October 19. As soon as Ms. Pan arrived at the courthouse at 9:00 a.m. that day, she was held by the police. They barred her from talking to anyone and then brought her to the hospital for a physical examination.
Ms. Pan was taken back to the courthouse in the afternoon to face the judge. She questioned the judge on why Falun Gong is celebrated around the world and only persecuted in China.
The judge interrupted her and said, “Don’t talk such nonsense to me. It’s just not allowed in China. We will arrest you if you practice it.”
“I’ll give you a lighter sentence if you renounce Falun Gong. Would you do it?”
Ms. Pan answered, “Falun Gong gives me good health and it’s also beneficial for society. What’s wrong with that?”
Ms. Pan was taken back into custody at the Dandong City Detention Center after the hearing.
