(Minghui.org) Six months after Ms. Zuo Xiuyun was released from serving five years for upholding her faith in Falun Gong, she was arrested again, on June 19, 2021.
This is the sixth time that Ms. Zuo has been arrested since the Chinese Communist Party started the persecution of Falun Gong, an ancient spiritual discipline, in July 1999. Four of her previous arrests have resulted in prison sentences, including three years, six years, three and a half years, and five years, respectively.
Ms. Zuo lost her job as a kindergarten teacher and was divorced by her husband in 2003, both because of her faith in Falun Gong.
Ms. Zuo stayed at her brother’s place in Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, after she was released on December 27, 2020.
After the 2021 Chinese New Year in February, she found a job as a home aide for Ms. Wang Xiuqing, who also practices Falun Gong.
The police, however, didn’t leave Ms. Zuo alone. At around 8 a.m. on June 19, a group of officers from Ms. Zuo’s hometown in Yongan City in the same province broke into Ms. Wang’s home in Fuzhou and arrested Ms. Zuo.
Without showing their IDs or a search warrant, and with the assistance of Fuzhou police, the Yongan police searched Ms. Wang’s residence, and confiscated her Falun Gong books and other belongings.
It’s not clear where Ms. Zuo is currently being detained or whether the police will pursue prosecution against her again.
Ms. Zuo isn’t the only one who has suffered devastating persecution for practicing Falun Gong in her family. Her brother, Mr. Zuo Fusheng, a veteran, has served two labor camp terms for a total of three years and eight months, as well as a six-year prison term. He was once hung up by his wrists and beaten for six hours at the Fuqing Prison, during which one of his eyes became blind. His wife also divorced him to avoid being implicated in the persecution.
When the two siblings were imprisoned one after another, their mother, Ms. Zhou Lianying, lived in constant fear and distress over their persecution. She passed away on April 25, 2015, less than two months before Ms. Zuo was released from her third prison term.
