Seven Sichuan Residents Sentenced to Prison, Families in Distress
(Minghui.org) Six Falun Gong practitioners in Xichang City, Sichuan Province and one of their spouses were sentenced by the Xichang City Court on December 9, 2020. They are appealing the verdicts to the Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture Intermediate Court.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Huang Biao was sentenced to five years in prison and fined 20,000 yuan.Ms. Luo Mingchun was sentenced to four years in prison and fined 20,000 yuan.Ms. Zhao Jun was sentenced to three years in prison and fined 10,000 yuan.Ms. Zhou Xianrong was sentenced to two years in prison and fined 8,000 yuan.Ms. Yu Hongying was sentenced to 18 months in prison and fined 6,000 yuan.Ms. Xu Shaoqiong was sentenced to 14 months in prison and fined 5,000 yuan.Ms. Zhou’s husband, Mr. Pan, who doesn’t practice Falun Gong, was sentenced to six months in prison and fined 3,000 yuan.
The seven people were arrested between July and August 2019. They were tried on May 28, 2020, before being sentenced.
The practitioners' sentences have caused tremendous distress to their family members.
Ms. Zhao has been the main caregiver for her younger brother with a mental disorder and their 85-year-old mother since her father passed away years ago. On December 27, 2020, Ms. Zhao’s mother fell at home and hurt her legs. Unable to stand up on her own, she sat on the cold floor overnight. Only when her other son came to see her the next day did he help her to stand up and moved her to the bed. She is now bedridden and has trouble turning herself. Worried about Ms. Zhao, she doesn’t have any appetite and is in deep agony.
Mr. Huang’s wife, who is also bedridden and has relied on his care for the past decade, has been moved to a senior center.
Ms. Yu’s mother in her 80s went around town to seek her release, but to no avail.
