Nurse Supervisor Arrested for Her Beliefs before APEC Meetings
(Minghui.org) A nurse supervisor, 52-year-old Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Pan Yinjuan, was arrested on the afternoon of Nov. 3, 2014. The police claimed that the arrest was to prevent her from appealing for Falun Gong during the APEC meetings taking place in Beijing.
Ms. Pan's family does not know where she was taken.
With help from hospital administrators, Hongmen police arrested Ms. Pan when she was at work at the 3rd Affiliated Hospital of Xinxiang Medical School. They took Ms. Pan's house keys and ransacked her home. Police confiscated her bank savings account, personal identification documents, and all the computers, printers, and cell phones in her home.
Since the persecution started, hospital officials have been persecuting Ms. Pan and her husband, who taught at the medical school. They have laid them off, withheld their wages, tapped their phones, monitored their activities, and assisted local police to ransack their home.
In 2009, Ms. Pan was removed from her position as a nurse supervisor, and forced to become a laundry worker for the hospital. On July 7, 2011, she was arrested by the Xinxiang City 610 Office and taken to a brainwashing center. There she passed out with symptoms of cardiac disease, so the police had to release her on the second day.
In early May 2012, the Hongqi District 610 Office attempted to arrest Ms. Pan while she was at work. She had a heart attack during the arrest and was taken to the emergency room.
Ms. Pan's husband, Dr. Li Fujun, was an associate professor at the Xinxiang Medical School. He won a first prize for teaching excellence. As a visiting scholar to the Xiehe Medical School in 1998, he participated a research project on the health benefits of Falun Gong by gathering data on 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners.
In October 1999, after the persecution started, Dr. Li went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. There he was arrested, tried, and sentenced to four years in prison. The Xinxiang Medical School fired him because of his belief.
Even after his release in 2003, the president of the medical school, Li Rongtang, still refused to return Dr. Li to the faculty. Dr. Li had to leave home to find a job in southern China.
