(Clearwisdom.net) After the persecution of Falun Gong began on July 20, 1999, I was sentenced on unjust charges to a couple of years in prison. I met many convicts there, who had predestined relationships with Falun Dafa. In the earlier period of my imprisonment, I was held in a facility on the city outskirts, which was a wide open area used mostly for agriculture. I heard about incidents of prison breaks from some of the inmates - even groups of inmates at a time. Some inmates refused to follow regulations, and often got into fights with the prison guards (I witnessed this myself). This was very troublesome for the guards. Prior to the persecution, there were many prison guards who practiced Falun Gong, and they taught the practice to many others. The prison guards believed that Dafa would be able to change the convicts, and transform them into good people, so they often studied Zhuan Falun together. Subsequently, there were no further prison break incidents.
Later on, I was transferred to another facility where I met a convict leader who had been jailed for over ten years. He told me that the old prison instructor there practiced Falun Gong. Almost all the guards and convicts there had read Falun Gong and Zhuan Falun and became good people; many of the convicts there didn't understand why so many practitioners were being sent to prison.
After I was released from prison, I met a practitioner who had also been imprisoned, who told me that he saw a copy of Zhuan Falun in the prison book storage room. He was astonished that after so many years of persecution, there would still be such a book in a prison. He was excited, and began reading the book. Later on, the convict in charge of the book storage told him that he knew that the book was there for a long time, and that it was widely used. This convict was someone who understood the truth about Falun Gong and the persecution. The practitioner ask him to please keep the book safe, to which he responded that he already knew what to do.
When it comes to cultivation in Falun Gong, there is no division by occupation, rank, or social status. As long as one has a heart for cultivating oneself and cultivating compassion, even convicts can repent and start anew on the path of cultivation. Before the persecution, Falun Gong's teachings were in wide circulation in prisons in mainland China, and it really wasn't limited to just a few particular cases. Due to the positive effects of Falun Gong on convicts, Taiwanese prisons issued certificates of appreciation to practitioners for promoting Falun Gong in prisons. Nowadays, Falun Gong is widely spread in over one hundred countries and locations, and has received thousands of official acclamations. The phrase "Humankind needs Truth-Benevolence-Compassion, Falun Gong belongs to the entire world" has become a widely held view, and a fact.
However, when Jiang Zemin unleashed the brutal persecution of Falun Gong, how many lives were lost forever?! Especially for the police and guards in mainland China's prisons, labor reeducation camps, and other detention centers, who once accepted Falun Gong and used Dafa books to help change convicts, they've now become the "hired hands" against Falun Gong in this persecution. For instance, the prison commissioner who detained me also practiced Falun Gong before July 20, 1999. Afterward, he was a staunch supporter of the persecution of Falun Gong. How many convicts have been used as tools to carry out this persecution, incited by the prison authorities to persecute Falun Gong practitioners? They've violated the principles of heaven and committed great sins through this persecution.
