New York: Third Chinese International Vocal Competition Successfully Concludes (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) After three days of intense competition, the sixteen bel canto award recipients of the 2009 NTDTV Chinese International Vocal Competition were revealed on Sunday evening, August 2, in the Gerald W. Lynch Theater. The award ceremony took place at the end of a show by Shen Yun Performing Arts, a New York-based Chinese dance and music company, in Westchester, New York. Yuan Qu, a tenor from New York, won the gold in the male division, and Haolan Geng, a soprano from China, won the gold in the female division.

(Clearwisdom.net) On August 2, Shen Yun Performing Arts held a show at the Performing Arts Center, SUNY Purchase College in Westchester, New York. Ms. Howard, owner of a New York City youth organization, attended the show. She was with Mr. Farzan, who works for a business publication that is a sponsor of the 2009 Shen Yun World Tour.

Taiwanese Falun Gong Practitioner Arrested in China

(Clearwisdom.net) On July 31, 2009, Ms. Shao Yuhuan, a citizen of Taiwan, was arrested in China, when she was visiting her family. Contact with her has since been lost.

Yang Yi, chief of the News Bureau and spokesman for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the Chinese Communist Party, is visiting Taiwan. Zhang Chinghsi, chair of the Falun Dafa Association in Taiwan, submitted a letter to Yang Yi on August 1, requesting that the Chinese government release Shao Yuhua.
