Mr. Liu Jingmin Dies in Jilin Province
Mr. Liu Jingmin, 52, lived in Quanyang Town, Fusong County, Jilin Province. After the persecution began in 1999, he appealed for Falun Dafa and was sent to forced labor twice, detained twice, and harassed multiple times.
On December 21, 2005, he was followed by Yangquan Forestry Domestic Security agent Wang Shouliang while going to his fellow practitioner Mr. Zhang Tongren's house. Wang arrested him and another practitioner, and detained him in the Fusong County Detention Center for three months, where he had to sleep on a metal bed.
Mr. Liu was taken to serve 18 months of forced labor in the Chaoyanggou Labor Camp in Changchun City. The guards forced him to recite the prison rules and do hard labor. They also often kicked and punched him. Mr. Liu's kidney was damaged due to the guards and prisoners (those assigned to monitor him) kicking him. He had to use the toilet five or six time each night, and later more than 30 times. Given his physical condition, he still had to do hard labor, and he was forced to stand for a long time or be locked in solitary confinement if he could not finish the assigned quota.
Under such inhumane torture, Mr. Liu Jingmin's health deteriorated steadily, to the point where he was no longer able to look after himself. The camp administration, afraid of being held responsible for his life, agreed to let him be bailed out for medical treatment, but only under the condition that he had to write a "guarantee statement" giving up cultivation. Mr. Liu was forced to write such a statement against his will. He returned home in July 2006.
Mr. Liu was bedridden after he was released, and his family took him to the Siping Hospital to have one of his kidneys removed. On April 23, 2009, Fusong County Domestic Security agent Guo Jun led a group of officers to harass him in his home. Mr. Liu's condition continued to worsen, and he died on April 28, 2009.
Ms. Chen Shuzhi Dies under Persecution
Ms. Chen Shuzhi, 59, lived in Mentougou District of Beijing. On March 6, 2006, she was arrested by "610 Office" agents, detained for two months in the Mentougou District Detention Center, and then taken to the Daxing District Women's Labor Camp. She was subjected to long-term sleep deprivation, forced to sit motionless on a small stool, and not allowed to use the toilet or talk. At the end of 2006, the Camp Administration notified her family that she was terminally ill, and they let her be bailed out for medical treatment. She was perfectly healthy before her sentence, but she was emaciated and very weak when she got out. After she returned home, officers from the 610 Office and police station frequently harassed her at her home and threatened her. She never recovered fully and died on April 6, 2009.
