To spread the Fa, we set up a practice site at the Mall of Washington DC. Sometimes there are many tourists there. These tourists are not only from North America, but also from all over the world. I am not sure how it began. My husband and I started to teach the exercises and introduce the Fa there, instead of just practicing the exercise there, ourselves. Every weekend, we first do the exercises at a nearby practice site and read a chapter of Zhuan Falun with other practitioners, then drive to the Washington, DC practice site. In the days when the Fa is widely spreading in human society, we have met many different kind of people. Here, Id like to tell you about some of them.
1. A predestined Israeli
This winter the lawn was covered after a big snowstorm. It was gloomy and cold and there were not many tourists walking by. We were doing the second set of exercises on the circular patches of ground shoveled clear by practitioners. Suddenly I noticed a man standing on the sidewalk. He had been watching us for some time. My husband walked over to him and told him that we were doing Falun Gong exercises. Then to his surprise that the man said, I can do this exercise, too. Then he told his story. When he was studying Chinese medicine in Beijing in 1994, he learned Falun Gong in Tiantan Park. At that time, because of the time conflict between work and practice he didnt have the opportunity to learn the fifth set of exercises. He felt that the exercises were so good that he has continued to do the exercises everyday these past years. He didnt know there were books and videotapes. That day was the final day of his business trip to the US. He was flying back in the afternoon. We had plenty of Chinese and English material in our car and we made good use of them. Being very excited, he bought Zhuan Falun, China Falun Gong and Masters exercise-instruction videotape and told us he would read the book. A short time later, we received an email saying that he had finished half of the book and felt that his Gong (cultivation energy) had been growing distinctly. He also mentioned that our short encounter was not incidental. His following emails told us that he had planned to give up Taichi, which he had practised for many years and had been good for his health. Afterwards he said that he had contacted practitioners in Israel and had gone to the Chinese embassy to clarify the truth about Falun Gong with them
This story about an Israeli man with a heavy beard has let us know again how important a regular outside practice site is. The predestined people will be led here when the timing is right.
2. Tell fellow Chinese people the truth
At the end of 1999, some Chinese business delegations came to the Washington DC practice site. They all knew about the suppression of Falun Gong in China. Some of them were surprised to see Falun Gong here; some were too afraid to accept Falun Gong newspapers; some were curious and asked for the newspaper; some wanted to learn; some approached us to talk; some showed their sympathy; some sneered at us; some cursed us politely. There were all sorts of attitudes. Sometimes when they said something not true, we felt our hearts were fluctuating. Slowly this feeling of unfairness turned to anger. Remarks without compassion were to blurt out. At this time a voice in my head reminded me repeatedly: position the relationship with everyday people correctly, keep a merciful and peaceful heart. One group of Chinese people went and another group came. Gradually I found that I could talk about these issues with a peaceful tone and was not easily moved by people with an irritated mood. My cultivation went through these good and bad states.
Just like what Master Li wrote in Zhuan Falun: This site is not an ordinary site, and neither is it a site for an ordinary qigong practice: It is a site for cultivation practice. And in the mean time I can tell the real story of Falun Gong to fellow Chinese people who can only hear the words from the Chinese government. Some of them have friends or relatives practicing Falun Gong. The more I told them, the more they were likely to repeat to people in China. More or less it would help the deceived people and awaken them earlier. Once after I told a tourist from China our real situation, he walked away while nodding his head. After a while, he brought back a group of Chinese people. He said to me with a smile: Miss, you see I bring them all here! Many of them took newspapers and material edited by practitioners. They were also eager to know what Falun Gong is. Maybe they also wanted to solve the puzzle why so many people are so devoted. Maybe some of them are predestined. The power of Dafa will make possible those that seem to be impossible.
3. An interesting story of a European person and Dafa
It was a sunny day. A Caucasian man came excitedly and squatted in front of the billboard that I use to promote the Fa. He was saying Dafa loudly while his hand was pointing to the character of Dafa. He asked his friend to take pictures for him. I stepped forward to ask him. He told me amusedly that his name is Dafa, he came from Europe. When I told him about the Chinese meaning of Dafa, he stared at me as if he was asking me Really? I told him that Falun Dafa is an ancient cultivation method originated in China. He immediately told me that he used to practice some meditation practice. I was wondering what kind of predestined relationship he had with Dafa. His friends amusedly called his name Dafa while he was listening carefully to my introduction. At the end, I earnestly invited him to come and learn Falun Gong after he read the material. I hope this light-hearted person from Europe has been practicing in the Dafa.
I can recollect from my memories that I have been meeting people of different races from different countries. I might be able to tell more little stories. These experiences seem little and simple, nothing striking and remarkable. But I am cultivating myself and getting mature from these little things. I have the same wish as other practitioners--to help Master to let more people all over the world know about Dafa and understand Dafa and eventually cultivate the law of the universe.
