My husband, Zhang Zheng-gang, was a former contact person of Falun Gong Assistance Center in Huai-an City. He was detained in the Detention Center of Huai-an City from March 2 to March 25 of 2000. Police tortured him brutally on March 25 and then murdered him on March 30 while he was receiving treatment in hospital.
The failure of the United Nations 56th Human Rights Commission in Geneva to censure China is certainly disappointing to the cause of upholding the principles enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and in the U.N. Charter. It also calls into serious question the purpose of this Commission and its ability to effectively and objectively address the current situation of human rights in the world today.

UNITED NATIONS, April 18 -- China today defeated a U.S. effort to censure it for human rights abuses, thwarting months of high-level lobbying of foreign governments by Secretary of State Madeleine K. Albright and other senior U.S. officials.
