An 81-year-old resident of Nanjing City, Jiangsu Province, died on November 19, 2021, after suffering years of persecution for her faith in Falun Gong.

Ms. Yuan Yuzhen, a retired schoolteacher, went to Beijing many times to appeal for Falun Gong. The Beijing police shocked her with electric batons until she fainted. They also beat her and put her in a metal cage.

Over the years, Ms. Yuan’s home was raided five times, and she was held in a brainwashing center four times. Two other times she was given criminal detention. She also served one year of forced labor in the Judong Women’s Labor Camp, where she was beaten so savagely that she lost almost all of her teeth.

In June 2015, Ms. Yuan filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former Chinese dictator who ordered the persecution of Falun Gong. The police arrested her on October 22 that year. While she was soon released, the 610 Office agents harassed her at home numerous times. Her blood pressure shot up and she often shivered. She gasped for air sometimes and also took several falls. She died on November 19, 2021.
