Recounting the Torture at Hunan Province Women’s Prison

(Minghui.org) Editor’s note: A Falun Gong practitioner recounted the torture she and other practitioners suffered at the High Alert Ward of Hunan Province Women’s Prison. To protect her safety, she chose not to reveal her name.

While I was detained at the Hunan Province Women’s Prison, the guards didn’t allow me to wash myself or use the restroom. I was forced to stand for more than ten hours each day and also deprived of sleep. The inmates kicked me whenever I moved a little. As a result of long hours of standing, my feet became so swollen that I couldn’t walk.

I’m not the only one who was tortured there. Every practitioner who refused to renounce Falun Gong was targeted. We were closely monitored by the inmates and not allowed to talk to each other. Some practitioners were woken up during sleep because the inmates didn’t like their sleeping positions.

While in the prison, I also witnessed how practitioner Zhang Yaqin was tortured to death. She was deprived of sleep and denied restroom use. She had to relieve herself in her pants. The guards once forced her to "wear a straitjacket" and then poured cold water on her. In the winter, she was only given a thin comforter. She eventually died in October 2020. The prison told her family that she passed away due to an illness. The six inmates who knew the situation, including Xiao Rong, Li Jingjing, and Li Zhaoyuan, were ordered to sign a confidentiality agreement.

At that time, another two practitioners, Wu Changrong of Yiyang City and Xiao Yongkang of Huaihua City, were also subjected to similar torture. After Ms. Zhang’s death, the guards alleviated the torture a bit.

Huang Jing (former supervisor), Zhang Anli (current supervisor), Zhou Xiaolan (first team leader), Tang Ying (second team leader), Li Jun, Hu Ying, Yang (first name unknown), Zhang Yuyu, Wen Yiqi, Fan Rui, Liu Qian, Tu Juan, Tong Ai, Yang Xia, Hou Kai, He (first name unknown), and Tu Wenli.
