(Minghui.org) Two Nan County, Hunan Province residents have been detained incommunicado since their arrests on May 20, 2022 for practicing Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
The police arrested Ms. Chen Lichun at her home at 1 p.m. on May 20. Mr. Zhang Kehui, who happened to be visiting her, was also arrested. The police ransacked both practitioners’ homes, and with no one present at Mr. Zhang’s home. Many of Mr. Zhang’s personal belongings and 15,000 yuan in cash printed with information about Falun Gong were confiscated.
Due to strict information censorship in China, many practitioners use creative ways to spread information about their faith, including printing information on paper currency.
Upon hearing about the police raid, Mr. Zhang’s relative who lives nearby came over to stop them. Bao Yajun, head of the Domestic Security Office, refused to show his ID and also intimidated Mr. Zhang’s relative.
Both practitioners were then taken to the Jiudu Police Station. The police kept Mr. Zhang handcuffed. When his family went to visit and deliver daily necessities to him, the police deceived them by saying that he would be released in two days, and they refused to accept the items.
Two days later, without informing their families, the police transferred the practitioners to a secret detention location. Local Falun Gong practitioners suspected they may have been taken to the Yiyang City No. 1 or No. 2 Detention Center, which hasn’t been confirmed by the practitioners’ families.
Mr. Zhang was a farmer before his land was seized by the government. Both he and Ms. Chen, whose husband was laid off, worked at a mobile company in Nan County. Ms. Chen worked in the kitchen and Mr. Zhang worked as a janitor.
Because of telling a coworker about Falun Gong in late 2021, both of them were reported to the company’s manager. The manager ordered them to write statements renouncing Falun Gong. When they refused to comply, the company fired them and reported them to the Nan County 610 Office, which ordered their recent arrests.
