(Minghui.org) A 56-year-old resident in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province is being forced to watch propaganda videos smearing Falun Gong every day, while serving a 4.5-year term for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. Her family worries whether she is also being tortured in the prison.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Gangli
Ms. Liu Gangli was arrested on February 2, 2020, and sentenced to prison on August 10, 2021. She was taken to Liaoning Province No. 2 Women’s Prison on August 16, 2022, and transferred to the 4th Ward on September 21.
Ms. Liu’s family hasn’t been allowed to visit her or call her since she was taken to the prison. In late October, a prison guard in charge of "transforming" Falun Gong practitioners called her family and revealed that Ms. Liu is being forced to watch propaganda videos every day.
The prison guard also said that Ms. Liu has dangerously high blood pressure and they were taking her to the hospital for a checkup. While the family asked whether the condition was induced by physical torture, the guard claimed that they have been treating Ms. Liu nicely. But when her family asked to talk to her, the guard said that was not possible because Ms. Liu didn’t renounce Falun Gong. Her husband went to the prison several times in person to demand a visit but was also denied.
Ms. Liu took up Falun Gong in 2008 at the recommendation of a friend. She used to have uterine fibroids and a strong addiction to smoking and drinking. Due to her bad temper, she often had conflicts with her mother-in-law. After she started to practice Falun Gong, she quit smoking and drinking, her uterine fibroids disappeared, and she became considerate and got along well with her family.
Her latest persecution is the second time that she has been sentenced for her faith. She was previously arrested on February 27, 2014, for distributing Falun Gong materials and sentenced to three years on April 13, 2015.
