Additional Persecution News from China – October 20, 2022 (8 Reports)

(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 8 cities or counties in 5 provinces, where at least 19 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Mr. Fan Ruihai Arrested

Mr. Fan Ruihai, 58, was arrested by officers from the Longzhou Police Department when he was posting informational stickers about Falun Gong on the street on October 9, 2022. They tortured him and tried to extract a confession from him for over an hour. His home was ransacked the next day and his Falun Gong books, computer and other items were seized. Mr. Fan’s arrest was officially approved. He was quarantined for 7 days at the Longzhou Police Department, then sent to the Xingtang County Detention Center on October 18. Mr. Fan was previously sentenced to 4 years in prison in 2004.

2. [Liaocheng City, Shandong Province] Multiple Practitioners Arrested

Multiple practitioners from Liaocheng City were arrested and their homes were ransacked. Some practitioners’ family members were also arrested. Ms. Zhou Jiuju was released the same day. Mr. Li Deqing was held for 2 days. Ms. Pan Baozhen’s Falun Gong books were seized and she is living at home under surveillance. Ms. Pan’s mother’s home was also ransacked. A practitioner called Sange was also arrested and released later. An elderly practitioner’s wife was arrested at his place. Two other practitioners were also arrested.

3. [Zhuozhou City, Hebei Province] Ms. Wu Yuping and Ms. Wang Lixia Persecuted

Ms. Wu Yuping and Ms. Wang Lixia were reported to the police for telling people about Falun Gong and the persecution at the Pangezhuang Market on October 13, 2022. They were taken to the Zhuozhou Domestic Security Division and interrogated. Police issued each of them one-year bail pending trial.

The Domestic Security Division authorities ordered Ms. Wu’s husband Mr. Liu Tao, who is also a practitioner, to go to the police department. They told him to sign the paperwork of bail pending trial and promise that his wife would no longer distribute any informational materials about Falun Gong. Mr. Liu refused. The police then handcuffed him for a night.

The three practitioners were released on October 14.

4. [Gaozhou City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Wu Youqing Arrested and Tortured

Ms. Wu Youqing was arrested by over ten officers from the Gaozhou City Police Department when she went out on the evening of September 26, 2022. They broke into her home and ransacked it. Ms. Wu was taken to the Xinyi Detention Center.

A guard shackled her to punish her when she did the Falun Gong exercises at the detention center on October 4, 2022. They kept her shackled until October 6, when an agent from the Gaozhou City Procuratorate took her for a trial. Her family deposited 500 yuan for her in the detention center. Several days passed, but the center did not inform her about this.

5. [Handan City, Hebei Province] Ms. Guo Hailian’s Home Ransacked

Officers from the Wei County Police Department ransacked Ms. Guo Hailian’s home on October 17, 2022.

6. [Changchun City, Jilin Province] Professor Liu and His Caregiver Arrested

Officers from the Qinghe Street Police Station ransacked Professor Liu’s home and seized a large quantity of items including Falun Gong books, a laptop, an iPad, a cell phone, and other items on October 12, 2022. They also photographed him. They drove away with the seized items, and then returned to Professor Liu’s home and arrested him. Professor Liu, who is 92 and not wearing shoes at the time, was lifted into a police vehicle and taken to the Qinghe Street Police Station. His caregiver, who also practices Falun Gong, was arrested at the same time. Professor Liu was released at around 10 p.m. that night.

His caregiver was interrogated and beaten. Her face was bruised and swollen when she was released the next day.

7. [Zunhua City, Hebei Province] Multiple Practitioners Harassed by Officers

Practitioners were harassed under the pretext of maintaining social stability before the opening of the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party. Officers from the Dongjiuzhai Town Police Station harassed practitioners in Shiqiaotou Village, Wenzhuang Village and Yangzhuang Village on September 10 and October 10, 2022. The practitioners include Ms. Wang Xiuming, Ms. Wang Yumin, Ms. Zhao Haiyan, Ms. Wen Ruihua, Ms. Wen Fuli, Ms. Yu Xiuju, Mr. Wen Tiedong and Ms. Zhao Hongxia.

8. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Yang Jianmei Arrested

Ms. Yang Jianmei was arrested by officers from the Xipu Police Station on October 10, 2022. Police demanded that she write a statement promising not to practice Falun Gong. She refused. Officers from the police station collected Ms. Yang’s hand prints, foot prints, voice and finger prints. Ms. Yang was held in the police station that night. The next day she was informed that the case against her had been submitted to the procuratorate and that her family could get bail pending trial for her so that she could go home.
