(Minghui.org) A man who refused to have his wife’s body cremated after she was persecuted to death for her faith in Falun Gong has now been arrested.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Li Changfang, a resident of Yi’nan County, Shandong Province, was arrested on October 23, 2018, and later sentenced to 2.5 years with 10,000 yuan fine on March 27, 2019.
She began to experience a stomachache in June 2019 while being held at Linyi City Detention Center. The pain later spread to her back and legs.
Shortly after Ms. Li was hospitalized on July 6, a group of doctors operated on her without her family’s consent. She remained in a coma after the surgery and her eyes were taped shut all the time. The doctors claimed that she had complications in her liver and kidney and they put her on a dialysis machine.
Ms. Li’s husband, Mr. Wang Xijie, visited her at 2:30 p.m. on July 12. He noted she twisted her head a little when he called her name. Her head moved a little again and tears covered her face when he continued to call her name.
Mr. Wang was excited and told the doctors that she had feelings. But he was told that Ms. Li's movement was controlled by the machine and it wasn’t her own consciousness.
The hospital called Mr. Wang around 6 p.m., less than four hours after he left the hospital, and said that she was dying. When he rushed to the hospital, Ms. Li has already passed away after the police removed her life support.
The authorities confiscated Ms. Li’s body and made several attempts to force Mr. Wang to sign the consent form to cremate her body.
After Mr. Wang refused to comply, the police arrested his son at least four times around October 2019, but the younger Mr. Wang also refused to comply.
The elder Mr. Wang was later forced to live away from home to hide from the police. The authorities turned to his family and harassed his sisters. One of his sisters, Ms. Wang Xiai, was arrested on January 5, 2020, and has been held at Hedong District Detention Center since.
Mr. Wang was arrested on February 17 at a local Falun Gong practitioner’s home.
