(Minghui.org) After I graduated from college, I was offered a government job. I began to cultivate in Falun Dafa in 1998, and was fired from my workplace in 1999 for being a Falun Dafa practitioner.
When I was in financial difficulties, I remembered that my parents stitched paper money into a quilt when they got married. I removed the money and used it to buy food. Then, I became a street vendor.
To my detriment, I was given two counterfeit 200 yuan bills, which made me cry, as this was a big loss. I asked myself, “What I did wrong? Why did I encountered such difficulties?”
I took the two counterfeit bills to a local market and used them to pay for my purchases. The vendor was an old lady, who accepted the bills. Suddenly, I awakened and asked myself, “Who am I? I am a Falun Dafa practitioner! How can I do this?”
Then, I told the lady, “Sorry, the two bills I gave to you are counterfeit. Please let me exchange them.”
That evening I went to my mother in-law's. When I was cooking, I burned the two bills. My mother in-law saw me, realized that this was counterfeit money, and was impressed by my action.
Since then she would tell others that I am an honest person. She knew that this was because I practice Falun Dafa. She often said that Falun Dafa is good and even helped me distribute Dafa truth-clarifying materials.
Falun Dafa Practitioners Benefit Society
Eight years after I was fired, I was called back by my workplace. They needed a person that was honest and trustworthy. Although I was forbidden to do that kind of work because I am a Falun Dafa practitioner, they had me take on this job because they trusted me so much.
Some companies tried to bribe me in creative ways because they knew that I would not accept money outright. Over time, though, they figured out that I could not be swayed by material gain.
They said, “If everyone were as righteous as you are, the entire society would turn for the better. Falun Dafa practitioners are indeed something! We admire you the most!”
Taking Self-interest and Money Lightly
Master said,
“Remember that our practice doesn’t try to avoid the secular world, nor should you try to avoid or escape from its challenges. Rather, you are to practice while part of this world and stay alert to all of its pitfalls around you; to knowingly get shortchanged and be indifferent to it; to not fight with people when they try to take what’s yours; to keep your composure when people do things that are trying; and to, in this adverse setting, strengthen your will, perfect your character, and rise above all of the bad and worldly tendencies of thought that you are exposed to.” (The Eighth Talk, Zhuan Falun)
I work very hard and everyone knows that important projects succeeded because of me. My performance was outstanding. However, because of my belief in Falun Gong, I was never given an award.
“Because of this situation, “ said my boss, “I can't promote you, but I will figure out another way to raise your job title.” I thanked him. I knew why I was not given a promotion or award. If I could let my company fudge the truth a little, I would have no problem, However, I am a Falun Dafa practitioner, and live by the principles“Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance.” I cannot accept an award or promotion under false pretenses.
