(Minghui.org) A woman in her 80s is facing further prosecution for her faith in Falun Gong after she was tricked by the police into signing an interrogation record.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Hu Mingjun, a Deyang City, Sichuan Province resident, was arrested on August 22, 2019 while passing out informational materials about Falun Gong.
Officers from Longquanshanlu Police Station ransacked her home at around 1 p.m. Her 85-year-old husband was enraged but could not do anything.
After the police left at around 3 p.m., Ms. Hu’s son went to the local police station to seek her release. The police asked him to wait outside the building. Around 8 p.m., an officer came out with a bail form for him to sign. Ms. Hu returned home that evening.
Ms. Hu’s son went to the police station again in September to inquire about her case. An officer named Zhu Feng said to him, “Don’t worry. Her case has been dismissed.”
Traumatized by the police raid, Ms. Hu’s husband suffered pleural effusion and was hospitalized for a few weeks. She and her son took turns caring for him at the hospital.
Shortly after her husband returned home, Ms. Hu received a call and was asked to go to the police station.
She went there with her son on November 28, 2019. The police blocked her son outside again and only let her go in by herself.
The police placed Ms. Hu into an interrogation chair and questioned her for several hours. She was then given a stack of documents to sign and told that she would be freed afterward.
As Ms. Hu couldn’t read and she was nervous and exhausted, she signed the documents as instructed.
The police also brought her to the procuratorate later in the day and took her photo. They gave her a copy of “Notification of Rights and Obligations in the Investigation and Indictment Process” and released her. She couldn’t even remember how she went back home.
Upon reading the notification, Ms. Hu’s son realized that his mother had been duped by the police into signing the interrogation record, which would be used as prosecution evidence against her.
As her case has already been submitted to the procuratorate, she is likely to face indictment, trial and sentencing.
While an officer said that the judge would at most fine her several thousand yuan without really sentencing her to prison given her advanced age, her family expressed doubt of the police’s claim.
