(Minghui.org) A native of Pingdingshan City was recently sentenced to 8 years in prison for selling a car on a friend’s behalf.
Mr. Mu Yadong and his friend both practice Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. The friend decided to move away upon learning that he had been put on the wanted list. He asked Mr. Mu to help sell his car.
Mr. Mu was targeted by police soon afterwards. He was first arrested on October 14, 2011 while driving his daughter to school. He went on a hunger strike in protest, and was released on bail several weeks later on November 6.
Like his friend, Mr. Mu also left home to avoid further arrest. He eventually settled in Xuchang City and found a job at a car repair shop. Police in his hometown never loosened their grip on him. They arrested him in Xuchang on June 2, 2017 and took him back to Pingdingshan.
Mr. Mu went on a hunger strike to protest and became very weak. His lawyer requested to delay his trial that was scheduled for June 23, but a court official said, “We’ll carry him into the courtroom on a gurney if we have to!” The local court, though, later canceled the scheduled hearing.
Mr. Mu’s wife went to inquire about the case and was told by judges Zhang Feng and Zhou Gang that they had returned her husband’s case to the local procuratorate. Prosecutor Wang Hongwei claimed the case wasn’t with them and refused to meet with her.
Days later, officers Yang Honglai and Chen Jian showed up at Mr. Mu’s and his parents’ homes to gather evidence and interview his family members.
Mr. Mu appeared in court on December 2. Only a few people were allowed to attend the trial, and many of his supporters were barred from the courthouse.
Mr. Mu’s lawyer requested an acquittal and judge Zhou Gang adjourned the session without issuing a verdict. It was learned weeks later that Mr. Mu has been sentenced to 8 years in prison and that he was transferred to Ximi City Prison on January 18, 2018.
