(Minghui.org) A resident of Bairin Left Banner was cleaning his father-in-law’s windows when police arrested him and his wife.

Mr. Jia Bin’s latest arrest on April 21, 2017 came just three months after he was released after serving five years in prison for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. His wife, Ms. Zhao Chunxia, was also targeted because she practices Falun Gong.

The couple remains at Bairin Left Banner Detention Center.

Ms. Zhao’s father, Mr. Zhao Yu, went to request their release on April 24. The 80-year-old man was told to return the next morning. He did what was asked of him, but was driven to a local hospital on April 25 soon after he arrived at the police station. The police then took him to the local detention center, where they took a picture and fingerprints of him and body searched him. They never informed his family of his arrest, and his loved ones didn’t find out where he was until around 8 that night.

Mr. Zhao was released on bail on April 28.

The lawyer for Mr. Jia and Ms. Zhao submitted a request to Bairin Left Banner Procuratorate, urging the agency to not indict his clients and to immediately release them on bail, especially given that they still have two children who need their parents’ care.

The procuratorate declined the lawyer’s request, citing the following three reasons: 1) Ms. Zhao’s father, Mr. Zhao, is still on bail and he may collude with his son-in-law to fabricate defense evidence should the latter get released; 2) Mr. Jia is a repeat offender – he had been arrested numerous times for his faith; 3) Chifeng City Procuratorate has ordered Bairin Left Banner Procuratorate to quickly file indictments against Mr. Jia and Ms. Zhao.

This is not the first time that Mr. Jia, his wife, and their extended family have been persecuted for their faith. His parents-in-law, their three other daughters, two other sons-in-law, and one granddaughter practice Falun Gong. Mr. Jia’s mother-in-law, Ms. Zhang Guizhi, passed away on February 11, 2017 after years of harassment from police.
