(Minghui.org) Ms. Chen Hong had been in hiding until October 2014, when the police deceived her family into turning her in. She has since been subjected to torture in custody and denied family visits.
The police had attempted to arrest her in 2013 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline currently persecuted in China, but she escaped.
The police chief of Jianshelu Police Station persuaded Ms. Chen's mother, husband and son to turn her in by promising them that she would be released immediately after the paperwork was done. Head of Jianhua District Police Department made a similar promise to Ms. Chen's brother and threatened to harm Ms. Chen's family if they did not comply.
A deputy chief brought Ms. Chen's husband and son to the police station and told them that many police officers would be in trouble if Ms. Chen did not report to them. Another deputy chief threatened to take away Ms. Chen's son's job.
Believing that the police would let her go as promised, Ms. Chen's husband turned her in. Ms. Chen was placed under criminal detention the same day and a group of officers ransacked her home looking for so-called evidence (i.e. materials related to Falun Gong) to use against her.
It has been more than six months since Ms. Chen was detained, but the authorities have yet to file any formal charges. Her family has hired her a lawyer.
