(Minghui.org) Court officials and agents from the 610 Office in Jilin City have made repeated attempts to get a woman to dismiss her legal representation since her arrest one and a half years ago for practicing Falun Gong.
Most recently, they went to Ms. Ma Chi's home twice in one week in order to try to force her mother to dismiss Ms. Ma's lawyer. This lawyer had been hired to defend Ms. Ma's constitutional right to freedom of belief.
Ms. Ma's mother, 75, holding a banner in front of the court. The banner reads, “my daughter is being detained beyond legally permissible term; release her immediately.”
Zhang Qingshan, the head of the Chuanying District 610 Office, went to Ms. Ma's home with a police officer, and another woman on April 2, 2015.
As soon as Zhang entered Ms. Ma's home, he asked, “Who hired the lawyer for you? Dismiss your lawyer.”
Ms. Ma's mother told him that she would only dismiss the lawyer if her daughter was released. Zhang told the mother that he would release Ms. Ma, but only if she dismissed the lawyer first and that the family was not allowed to hire a lawyer from outside of their region.
Officials Zhang Qingshan and Judge Li Zhongcheng went to Ms. Ma's home again on April 8, 2015. Ms. Ma's mother was told that if she dismisses the lawyer, they would release Ms. Ma right away. The mother again declined and demanded her daughter's unconditional release.
