Practitioners Illegally Sentenced for Rescuing Imprisoned Husband

(Minghui.org) Presiding judge Ren Yongliang of the Huanan Forestry Bureau Court, with his hands visibly shaking and stuttering, announced the illegal sentence of four Falun Gong practitioners during their second trial on December 9, 2014.

Ms. Chen Shujie (程淑杰) was sentenced to four years in prison, Ms. Wang Zhiqin (王志琴) and Ms. Zhang Fenghua (张凤华) were sentenced to three years in prison. Ms. Wang Weijie (王伟杰) was sentenced to three years of probation.

The four practitioners were arrested on March 19, 2014 while they distributed flyers in an attempt to rescue Ms. Chen's husband, Mr. Shang Xiping (商锡平).

Mr. Shang was sentenced to ten years in prison for practicing Falun Gong in 2006. He was severely tortured and subjected to coercive brainwashing in the prison. When Ms. Chen visited him on January 8, 2014, he was emaciated and his physical condition was very poor.

Huanan County Forest Bureau Court held the first trial against the four practitioners on August 8, 2014. Judge Ren frequently interrupted the defense lawyers. While the prosecutor was talking, he repeatedly referred to the practice as a “cult” and accused the practitioners of “raping women, fighting, poisoning others, and promoting suicide,” forgetting that the defendants were all female. Embarrassed at the prosecutor's outrageous accusations, the judge adjourned the trial without issuing a verdict.
