Florida's Space Coast Learns about Falun Gong (Photos)

(Minghui.org) Brevard County, Florida, is known as the “Space Coast” because it has been the home of America’s many and illustrious space programs, beginning with Project Mercury and continuing through the Apollo Moon landing and the Shuttle. On a bright and sunny day amid the palms and Florida wildlife and next to the shimmering Indian River, three practitioners presented Falun Gong at an event sponsored by a local political umbrella organization, held in an attractive civic center.

While one practitioner demonstrated the calming Falun Gong exercises, another handed out flyers and answered questions about the practice. People were intrigued that a spiritual practice was being presented there and were very curious. Several people who had done Tai Chi or Yoga wanted to know how Falun Gong compared with those practices. These attendees were very interested in learning where the local practice site is.

Michael, a certified personal trainer, inquired about the practice times and invited a practitioner to present Falun Gong to his clients. Another young man was shown a copy of Zhuan Falun, the core text of Falun Gong, and expressed interest in reading it. A woman said that she was leaving for Peru for a spiritual retreat but would contact the local practitioner upon her return to learn more about Falun Gong.

Despite its peaceful background and focus on internal cultivation and improvement, Falun Gong has suffered years of horrific persecution by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). At the event, practitioners had displays and information that clarified the facts about how Chinese practitioners are being constantly forced to renounce their faith in Falun Gong by the CCP, which uses the most shameful and despicable means. A candidate for a local County Commissioner had heard about Falun Gong and knew a bit about the CCP’s internet censorship which keeps the Chinese people from learning how Falun Gong is freely practiced and respected overseas.

There was also some information on the most horrific of atrocities, the CCP’s extraction of vital organs from Falun Gong practitioners who are still alive. One man took the book by Messrs. Kilgour and Matas, which researches this horror, and read it intently at the table. Several people signed the petition condemning this crime. The local practitioner met an art teacher from a nearby high school who was pleased to see the Falun Gong table. At the end of the event, the organizer thanked the practitioners for their efforts to bring awareness of this critical human rights issue to his event’s patrons.
